STATE OF MINNESOTA
RESOLUTION OF APPRECIA TION FOR DEPUTY CHIEF
DEAN M. OLSON
WHEREAS, Dean Olson had been a Mound\' View residentfrom1980 to 1985 and a Fire ChieffoI'
the Spring Lake Park/Blaine/Mound\' View Fire Department completing 18 years of service as a volunteer
.firefighter; and
WHEREAS, Dean joined the Fire Department January 29, 1980 and was appointed as Fire Motor
Operator on June 9, 1981, as Captain at Station One on M(~v 8, 1984, Dean moved to Station Two's area
and was appointed to Senior Station Captain in 199/, in Auxust of 1995 1vas appointed as Acting District
Chief, District Chief in Ju~v of 1996; and
WHEREAS, Dean l1YIS then promoted to Deputy Chiefin May of 1997 where he has served until
now; and
WHEREAS, Dean has attended various areas offirefighting courses including Fire Motor Operator,
Radiological Monitoring, Equipment Maintenance, Safety Almreness, maintained his First A id/CP R
certification, Firefighter 1 level in 1989, Firefighter 11 in 1990, Firefighter 111 in 1992 by Anoka Technical
College; and
WHEREAS, Dean has re()ponded to 2,OOO.fire calls and attended over 800 weekly drills; and
WHEREAS, in 1983 he was presented a Merit Service Award as Outstanding Fire,fighter of the Year
at Station One, received distinxuished service awards in 1991 and 1992 for the most public fire education
hours at Station Two; and
WHJ:."'REAS, Dean has exercised his skills serving the community by participating in fire prevention
presentations and public fire education events during the annual Open House and Santa tour; and
WHEREAS, Dean will retire from the Fire Department 011 April 23, 1998 and the Ci~v 4 Mounds
View appreciates and commends Dean for his many years of dedicated and loyal service to the Fire
Department and the community.
