CITY OF MOUNDS VIEW
COUNTY OF RAMSEY
STATE OF MINNESOTA
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING APPROVAL TO PROCEED WITH A GRANT
APPLICATION TO THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE UNIVERSAL HIRING
PROGRAM FOR TWO NEW POLICE OFFICERS
WHEREAS, the Department of Justice is offering grants through its Community
Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Office, called the Universal Hiring Program (UHP);
and,
WHEREAS, the process for obtaining an award under this program is a
competitive one, based on need; and,
WHEREAS, the UHP will allow for a total maximum of a $75,000 award spread
over a three year period, with a 25% local cash match, to subsidize the wages of new
hires under this program, so long as communities commit to retaining the new
position(s) for one complete budget cycle beyond the end of the funding period; and,
WHEREAS, the Mounds View Police Department has had, as an objective, the
ability to provide two officer coverage 24/7 under most circumstances; and,
WHEREAS, if successful in obtaining two addition officers under the UHP, the
Mounds View Police Department would attain said objective; and,
WHEREAS, the deadline for the grant application is June 6, 2003.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mounds View City Council does
hereby authorize staff to proceed with a grant application to the Department of Justice
Universal Hiring Grant program, requesting an award for two new Police Officers.
