The City park tour lasted approximately 1-1/2 hours and included Mounds View City Councilmembers Doty, Blanchard and Mayor MeCarty as well as [he Park Commission. Parks involved in the tour included Silver View, Sunny Square in New Briyhton, Lambert, Hillview and Groveland Parks. COUNCILMEMeER'S Councilmember poty outlined the 1984 capital REPORT improvement prioritization process that had occurred during the past month. There were four park projects in the top ten budget priorities including the establishment of a park project fund, mower tractor, development of Random tot lot and hockey rink fencing. Commissioner Silvis indicated to his fellow commissioners tha[ possibly some type of lobbyiny or discussion at [he City Council meetinys miyht be necessary to let the Council know how impor[ant park priorities are within the City. Park antl Recreation Direc[or Anderson indicated that [he City Council had been very supportive of park projects and felt that the Park Commission should be appreciative of t�e dollars that had been prioritized, given the extremely tiyht Eiscal condition the City is in, AQUATIC COORDINATOR StaEf introduced Maureen Thielen as the new POSITION Aquatics Dieector hired formally by the City Council on August 22, 1983. Ms. Thielen provided a brief update on her past backyround and experiences as well as indicating some key projects that she will be involved in during the p�-'""� coming months. Staff further stated that i, Lakeside Beach was formally closed on August 28 '�"" after a successful summmec with only one minor acciden[. In adtlition, it was stated that Playground, Inc. had been formally dissolved with a quit claim deed; with t�e Cities of Spring Lake Park and Mounds View joint owners of the Lakeside Park property. In addition, staff discussed the issue of local rubbish haulers becoming involved in the leaE composting program and felt that a[ this time we should run a hiyh quality proyram and get into larger quantities of leaves in [he future. The Park Commission reviewed [he leaf compostiny program and reyuested [hat the inaividuals in charge of [he Ramsey County LeaE Compos[ing Proyram attend the Septembec Park Commission meeting to futher update the Commission. Commissioner Wermager asketl staff what had happenetl wi[h the �ark dedica[ion plans for Silver View Park at this time and staff indicated tha[ the project had fallen by the wayside when the Fes[ival in the Park parade was not able to utilize the Silve[ View Park facilities. S[aff stated that there was going to be a grand opening of the leaf composting proycam on Sa[urday, October 29 at which time the two programs could poseibly be tied toge[her, Commissioners Bowman and Wermager volunteered to work with staf£ 1n the development of a ribbon cutting ceremony for 6ilver View Park on-;4otobee 29 in cO�,�,�n��a�ar�. with th�ilexE +, a �ruyram. .�. The major highlight for the Croveland park Foundation had been the construction of five new benches and planting areas as well as [he annual neighborhood picnic on Saturday, September 10. In addition, staff discussed Che volunteer coaches awacd proqratn tha[ was held on Tuesday, Auqust 6 a�d showed a jacket that had been awarded to each of our volunteer coaches. Staff concluded his monthly update by providing background data on [he yolE course development and indica[ed to the Commission that he would keep [hem apprised as to any progress in the golf course within the next month.
