OFFICE OF THE MAYOR
PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Arbor Day was first observed in 1872 with the planting of more than a
million trees in Nebraska and is now observed throughout the nation and the world; and
WHEREAS, the City of Mounds View has been recognized for 33 consecutive years as
a Tree City USA Community by the National Arbor Day Foundation for its commitment
to urban forestry; and
WHEREAS, trees in our City beautify our surroundings, increase property values, shade
our park and residences, reduce storm water runoff, reduce energy use, enhance the
economic vitality of business areas and promote healthier communities; and
WHEREAS, Public Works will be planting a variety of shade trees in various City parks
on April 24, 2015.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Joe Flaherty, Mayor of the City of Mounds View, do hereby
proclaim Friday, April 24, 2015 as
"ARBOR DAY"
in the City of Mounds View, and I urge all citizens to celebrate Arbor Day and support
efforts to protect our trees and woodlands, including planting trees to promote the well-
being of this and future generations.
