CITY OF MOUNDS VIEW
COUNTY OF RAMSEY
STATE OF MINNESOTA
APPROVING A PUBLIC WORKS INTERN POSITION
WHEREAS, in an effort to better serve the citizens of Mounds View and to
meet the goals set by the City Council, Staff recommends the hiring of a Public
Works intern; and
WHEREAS, this intern position will better enable Public Works to
administer activities associated with the numerous public improvements needed
to meet the City's goals; and
WHEREAS, the proposal is that the intern would be hired at an hourly rate
set at $11.00 per hour and the position would be full-time in the summer months
and approximately 15 hour per week throughout the remainder of the year; and
WHEREAS, Staff believes that hiring a Public Works Intern is the most
economical solution to meet the City's current needs and goals.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Mounds View, Ramsey County, Minnesota as follows:
A Public Works Intern Position is approved. This position would be
part time with the opportunity to work full time in the summer
months.
2. The hourly rate will be set at $11.00 per hour.
3. Staff is hereby authorized to advertise for this position and hire a
qualified individual for said position.

. POSITION DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Engineering Intern
Department: Public Works -Administration
Accountable to: Director of Public Works
Status: Non-Union
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITON
To assist the Public Works Administration Department with daily routine operations as required.
ESSENTIAL. DUTES AND RESPONSBILITIES
• Assist with all aspects of Public Works Administration.
• Assist with administering public improvement projects.
• Assist in developing an engineering data and information base.
• Perform field review and investigations for projects and studies.
• Assist in the preparation of the Capital Improvement Program and annual budget
• Undertake a wide variety of drafting assignments such as map updating and report
graphics.
• Assist with maintaining and updating the City's as-built library of public improvements.
• Run copies of maps and plats and provide as-built information to the public.
• • Perform other engineering and administrative work as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
(A)Preferred a high school graduate or GED equivalent enrolled in a four-year college or
vocation training in an engineering related field or graduate from high school with an
interest in the engineering field.
(B) Valid driver's license
(C) Experience using personal computers and associated software.
REQUIREMENTS
(A) Experience in Autocad and/or Arcview preferable.
(B) Familiarity with municipal construction activities desirable but not necessary.
(C) Abilities: Hard working, self-motivatored with attention to detail and neatness.
Amicable, cooperative and helpful personality desirable.
