RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE REPLACEMENT OF AN OUTOOR WARNING
SIREN
WHEREAS, the condition of the civil defense sirens was reviewed in 2006. One
of the three defense sirens in the city was replaced in 2006 because it was not
functioning, and could not be repaired. It was replaced with a siren with a greater range
and better backup. The other two sirens in the city do no have battery back up. One of
these sirens (located at Groveland Park) was purchased in 1971. This condition of this
siren was reviewed and was recommended for replacement in 2007; and
WHEREAS, the city of Mounds View has planned and budgeted for the
replacement of this siren out of the Special Project Funds for 2007; and
WHEREAS, RT Electric, and Federal Warning systems, both submitted bids for
replacing the siren with a Federal 2001 (the most purchased siren in the industry) siren
which is a rotating siren which covers a 5,400 feet radius; and
WHEREAS, the bid RY Electric is $15,593 and the bid from Federal Warning
Systems is $16,024 (both include tax).
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council for the City of
Mounds View authorizes the purchase and installation of a replacement warning siren
from RT Electric in the amount of $15,593 including tax from the special project fund.
