Item Title/Subject: City Hall Grading and Landscape Proposal
Background:
This is a general project outline to grade around the perimeter of City Hall to
create positive grade / drainage away from the building. The project will also
necessitate re-vegetating / landscaping the area disturbed.
These activities have been planned for and budgeted for as part of the City Hall
Rehabilitation Project. An estimated total of $13,000 ($5,500 for grading and
$7,500 for vegetation establishment) was included in the budget. The following is
a summary of the estimated final cost for the City Hall Rehabilitation Project:

Discussion:
Staff will provide a general overview of the grading and landscape proposal at
the work session.
Project Outline:
Grading
Award a contract for grading around the building
Review existing plant material with the Parks Supervisor and City Forester
and determine what, if any, plant material should be salvaged – either
reused at City Hall or other City owned property.
City crews to salvage (pot and remove) specified plant material
City crews to salvage edging material (landscape blocks)
City crews to remove irrigation system that can be salvaged (mainly just
the sprinkler head will be salvaged)
Gopher State One utility locates are completed
Grading contractor grades around the building – creating a positive grade
Landscape
Staff contacts several landscape contractors and discusses process for
development of a landscape plan and plant material / landscape supplies
purchase
Authorize development of a landscape plan
Landscape plan developed / reviewed / approved
Award a contract for purchase of plant material / landscape supplies
Award a contract for re-installation of irrigation pipe and irrigation sprinkler
heads
Landscape Installation
Eagle Scout Project
o Install plant material
o Install edging
o Install weed barrier fabric
o Install rock mulch – PW/Parks to assist with skid loader
o Install sod - PW/Parks to assist with skid loader
If this proposal to address the grading and landscaping around the City Hall
Building is acceptable, staff will proceed with getting quotes for grading and
landscape items and bring these back to the City Council for approval on either
September 11th of September 25th.
Recommendation:
Staff is looking for direction on this matter. Specifically, Staff is looking for
Council direction on if this grading and landscaping proposal for the City Hall
Building is acceptable.
