and has taken a leadership role on environmental, housing and banking reform
issues. He was Chairman of the Natural Resources Subcommittee on National
Parks, Forests and Public Lands for over ten years where his strong leadership

conservationist on the Resources Subcommittees on National Parks and Public
Lands, and Fisheries Conservation, Wildlife and Oceans.
Congressman Vento has served on the Banking and Financial Services
Committee and is the Ranking Member on the Subcommittee on Financial
Institutions and Consumer Credit. He has been extensively involved in the
enactment of major banking laws including legislation to strengthen deposit
insurance protections, permit banks to merge and branch on a national basis and
to modernize our financial services industry while protecting consumer privacy.
He chaired the House Task Force in the aftermath of the Savings and Loans
crisis. He is the acknowledged Congressional leader on homeless issues, and
has served on the Housing and Community Opportunity Subcommittee.
Congressman Vento's leadership and legislative contributions in
Congress have earned him significant awards and recognition from the National
Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare; Common Cause
Minnesota; League of Conservation Voters; Concord Coalition; National Council
of Senior Citizens; National Taxpayer's Union; Sierra Club; St. Paul Chamber of
Commerce; American Legion; Minnesota Peace and Police Officers Association;
and the National Alliance to End Homelessness, among others. He has also
received the Wilderness Society's prestigious Ansel Adams Award and the
National Parks and Conservation Association Conservationist of the Year Award
in 1987.
For these efforts and his availability to his constituents and communities,
the City Council of Mounds View, Minnesota extends its thanks for these many
years of service and contributions. We wish the best for Bruce and his family for
