CITY OF MOUNDS VIEW
COUNTY OF RAMSEY
STATE OF MINNESOTA
APPROVING THE 2008 SEASONAL PUBLIC WORKS POSITIONS
WHEREAS, Resolution 5546 requires that seasonal positions must be
approved by the Mounds View City Council; and
WHEREAS, Seasonal Employees benefit the City by providing labor
services that are relatively less expensive and are available during periods of
greater labor; and
WHEREAS, the City of Mounds View Public Works Department does have
a need to hire seasonal employees; and
WHEREAS, the Public Works Department is recommending that seasonal
positions be approved for three periods throughout 2008; and
WHEREAS, said periods are: Summer, Fall, and Winter; and
WHEREAS, for 2008, Staff is recommending that new hires start at the
hourly rate of $11.00/hr with the possibility of advancing to $11.50/hr after one
month of satisfactory performance and returning seasonal workers, along with
the engineering intern, would be compensated at $11.75/hr; and
WHEREAS, Staff is recommending that the Gity again create apart-time
seasonal employee position in 2008; and
WHEREAS, the part-time seasonal employee position would be
advertised and would require that a successful applicant possess a Class A
water license.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Mounds View, Ramsey County, Minnesota as follows:
1. The 2008 Summer Seasonal Public Works Positions are approved
- a total of ten (10) positions. These positions would start in
approximately mid-to .late-May 2008 and terminate in mid-to late-
August 2008. However, one Parks Division seasonal employee
typically begins employment in April.
2. The 2008 Fall Seasonal Public Works Positions are approved - a
total of two (2) positions. One position in the Public Works Sewer
Division and the other in the Parks Division of Public Works. These
positions would start approximately in mid-to late-August 2008. The
Parks Division seasonal employee would work until the end of
November. The Public Works Sewer seasonal employee would
work until the end of December, weather permitting.
3. The 2008 Winter Seasonal Public Works Position is approved - a
total of one (1) position. This position would start approximately in
early December 2008 and terminate in March of 2009.
4. Apart-time seasonal position is approved.
5. All Public Works seasonal positions will be filled, with new hires
starting at an hourly rate of $11.00/hr with the possibility of
advancing to $11.50/hr after one month of satisfactory
performance. Returning seasonal workers and the engineering
intern will be compensated at an hourly wage of $11.75/hr.
6. Each seasonal position will work forty (40) hours per week;
however the Fall and Winter positions may work less than forty (40)
hours per week.
7. All Public Works seasonal positions will remain on staff for a period
no longer than six months.
8. The 2008 part-time seasonal employee position is herby approved
with the requirement that a successful applicant would possess a
Class A water license.
9. The hourly wage for the 2008 part-time seasonal employee position
is hereby set at $13.25/hr.
10. This part-time seasonal position will be established for a period no
longer than six months. City Council approval will be required
should Staff recommend an extension of this part-time employment.
