MEETING IS CALLED TO ORDER 12 13 2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE 14 15 3. ROLL CALL: Gunn, Hull, Meehlhause, Mueller 16 17 NOT PRESENT: Bergeron (excused) 18 19 4. COUNCIL BUSINESS 20 A. Resolution 9214, Approving a Recommendation for the Appointment to the 21 Charter Commission. 22 23 Mayor Mueller reported the Court has requested the City Council make a recommendation on the 24 Charter Commission appointment by the end of business on December 30th. She explained the 25 City Council has received six applications for the open Charter Commission seat. 26 27 City Administrator Zikmund stated the vacancy was triggered by the resignation of Brooks 28 Staples from the Charter Commission. He reported the Court posted the vacancy with a deadline 29 of December 25th to receive applications. He noted the Court Administrator emailed staff on 30 December 26th and noted the Court had received five applications and wanted a recommendation 31 by close of business on December 30th. He explained a sixth application was received from 32 Rebecca Scholl. He commented further on the conversation he had with Ms. Scholl and 33 requested the Council make a recommendation to the Court regarding the vacancy on the Charter 34 Commission. 35 36 Council Member Meehlhause reported Council Member Bergeron sent an email with his 37 thoughts on the Charter Commission appointment. He indicated he supported Council Member 38 Bergeron’s recommendation of Miranda Munson. 39 40 Mayor Mueller read the names of the residents that had applied to serve on the Mounds View 41 Charter Commission. 42 43 Council Member Hull stated he supported the appointment of Miranda Munson as well. 44 45 Mounds View City Council December 30, 2019 Special Meeting Page 2 Council Member Gunn indicated she would like to see Miranda Munson appointed to the Charter 1 Commission. She understood Ms. Munson would like to become more involved in the 2 community and believed she would be a great asset to the Charter Commission. 3 4 Mayor Mueller stated she was quite pleased that five women had applied to serve on the Charter 5 Commission. She was of the opinion Rebecca Scholl would also serve the group well. 6 7 MOTION/SECOND: Meehlhause/Hull. To Waive the Reading and Adopt Resolution 9214, 8 Approving a Recommendation for the Appointment of Miranda Munson to the Charter 9 Commission. 10 11 Mayor Mueller asked if the Court could retain the remaining five candidates for 60 to 90 days in 12 the event the Charter Commission has another vacancy. City Administrator Zikmund stated he 13 believed statute required the Court to post for each vacancy but noted he would follow up with 14 the Court regarding this matter. 15 16 Ayes – 4 Nays – 0 Motion carried. 17 18 5.
