PARKS AND RECREATION AND FORESTRY COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES
6:30 P.M. | JANUARY 24, 2019 | MOUNDS VIEW CITY HALL
1. CALL TO ORDER – 6:33 pm
2. ROLL CALL: Commissioners: Arel, Aukee, Curry, Kroeger, Kunz, *Palm, Rundle
Staff: Peterson | YMCA: *Thomas *to be absent
3. APPROVAL OF AGENDA – Motion by Aukee, second by Kroeger, passes 6-0
4. SPECIAL BUSINESS
A. Reappointment Oath for John Kroeger by Don Peterson
B. Reappointment Oath for Gary Rundle, by Don Peterson
C. New Appointment Oath for Roscoe Curry by Don Peterson
D. Selection of Chair, Vice Chair and Recording Secretary
Chair – Arel, Vice Chair – Rundle, Secretary – Palm,
Motion by Aukee, second by Rundle, passes 6-0
5. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
A. November 15, 2018 - Motion by Kroeger, second by Rundle, passes 6-0
6. PUBLIC INPUT - None present
7. STAFF REPORTS
A. YMCA – See attached, Arel had questions about Music in the Park – No Movies and Music will be held
in conjunction with the Festival in the Park
B. Public Works – See attached,
8. UNFINISHED BUSINESS
A. Trails and Sidewalks – Looking at sidewalk on Wooddale Drive – Recommend add sidewalk from
Groveland to Pleasant View Drive on Mounds View Blvd. Aukee brought up bridge access to Greenfield
Park now that Rice Creek has re-profiled the ditch.
B. Youth Member appointed to the Commission – status – No applications yet.
9. NEW BUSINESS
A. Comprehensive Plan – survey results – Discuss trail connections at various places to complete trails,
Particularly Spring Lake Road, Trail to Lakeside Park, Trails along H and J. Also add Benches and
Garbage cans along trails. Also noted was the Splash Pad. Arel brought up Woodcrest Park and
Bathrooms not open in park shelters and concerns about Silverview Pond and the disc golf course.
B. Spring Lake – Discussion on re-opening beach for swimming – SLP is looking for MV to provide
management for the beach area, Don Peterson feels the Joint Task Force would need to be re -instated.
C. Greenfield Park – Ball Diamond Infield, request for improvements (e-mail) – We discussed the removal
of grass and raising home plate to alleviate water standing at home plate.
D. T- Ball Filed at City Hall Park – May have to remove some trees.
10. COMMISSIONER REPORTS – Arel asked about completion of the Splash Pad, Peterson estimates
by May 29th, Memorial Weekend.
11. REQUESTS FOR FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS / OTHER BUSINES
12. ADJOURNMENT – Motion Rundle, second Curry, 8:10 pm. Motion passes 6-0
