MEETING MINUTES
1. CALL TO ORDER at 6: 31 PM
2. ROLL CALL: Kunz, Palm, Kroeger, Arel, Long, Aukee, Peterson | Staff: DeBar | YMCA: Spiczka
3. APPROVAL OF AGENDA: Motion to approve by Palm, 2nd by Long. Motion Passed 7-0
4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
A. February 24, 2011 Meeting Minutes. Motion to approve by Aukee, 2nd by Long. Motion
Passed 6-0, one abstention due to absence.
5. PUBLIC INPUT
Citizens may speak to issues not on tonight’s agenda. Before speaking, please give your full
name and address. Please limit your comments to three minutes. No residents present.
6. YMCA REPORT: Spiczka: Zumba is full at 25 with a wait list of about 15. Yoga is full with 15
participants. Registration is open for summer parks program. $25 registration fee waived
before 4/15. Spring Fling April 16th from 11-1:30. $5 per family. Senior bingo growing on
Thursdays. Summer fields are booked M-Th with openings for adult softball if there are enough
participants. Several public requests for a refrigerator at Random Park building. Music in the
Park, June 16, July 21, August 18th. First two dates booked with North Suburban Concert Band
and a band called Good Timin’. Staffing changes: Scott Keigle leaving, Sam Springer new to
front desk since early February. Lauren Elaine Brown new Club Mid supervisor.
7. UNFINISHED BUSINESS
A. Discuss/Recommend Proposed Interior Revisions to Random Park Building. Staff checked
with groups that have used Random Park Building and no one uses the break-out room or
sees a need for keeping it. Mounds View Lions Club is wiling to do the remodeling and
asking the City to pay for the roll away dumpster. We need a time frame for the project so
as not to inconvenience reservations. With enough notice, regular groups can be relocated
to meet at MVCC or another park building. Carpet tiles and ceiling tiles may need to be
modified the wall removal. Staff will meet with Lions Club representatives next week.
Direct Staff to get a cost and time estimate for April meeting.
B. Discuss Lambert Park Building Layout: Building closer to street and square to the street,
Main entrance facing north. Bathrooms on east side of the building, utilities on west side.
Flip the Groveland/Hillview layout. Extend front smaller dormer out 4-6 feet with column
supports on north side. Larger back dormer to extend to a 24’ canopy with picnic tables.
Shift baseball field to the southeast.
8. NEW BUSINESS
A. Recommend Coach of the Year Candidate. Presented with candidates. Motion by Kroeger
to recommend candidate A for the Mounds View Coach of the Year, 2nd by Long.
Motion Passed 7-0. Palm will call Jennifer Holmes to see if she wants to come and present
the plaque. Deseree Crane will contact the recipient and coordinate the plaque. Town Hall
meeting will be Monday, April 18th 6-8:30 PM at City Hall.
B. Discuss Proposed Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Strategic Plan. Add individual parks to
the plan. Add a column for future considerations. Change “Sports” to “Programs.” Update
during Park Focus each month. Need maps of all parks with dimensions. Kroeger will
continue to revise.
C. Park Focus – Lambert Park. Future consideration for moving playground north, putting in
sand volleyball and/or basketball. Look at fencing or tree planting near the homeowner on
east side. Pathway around park for walking/bike riding.
9. REPORTS
A. Reports of Commission Members. No reports.
B. Reports of City Staff. Received donations from BBC. Palm will get a Thank you card and
place at City Hall, Public Works area for Commissioners to come and sign. DeBar will get to
BBC. Renovations at MVCC resulting in center being closed next week.
10. REQUESTS FOR FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS / OTHER BUSINESS
A. Next Regular Commission Meeting: April 28, 2011

2. Review budget and Park Dedication Fund
3. Discuss May Parks Tour Agenda
