ROLL CALL: Commissioners: Kunz, Palm, Kroeger, Arel, Long Staff: DeBar | YMCA: Danielson 3. APPROVAL OF AGENDA: Motion by Palm to approve, 2nd by Kunz. Motion Passed 5-0 4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES A. October 27, 2011 Meeting Minutes: Motion to approve by Kunz, 2nd by Arel. Motion Passed 5-0. 5. PUBLIC INPUT Citizens may speak to issues not on tonight’s agenda. Before speaking, please give your full name and address. Please limit your comments to three minutes. No residents present 6. YMCA REPORT: Danielson: New booking system for MVCC Event Center. Big Band Bash for Active Older Adults was well attended. Winter Sports Sessions has 25 people signed up. New Meditation class for free. Club-Mid and Teen nights partnering with Edgewood Middle School and having every other event at MVCC. Looking in starting a new program every quarter. Cookies with Santa on Dec. 10th from 11-1 with snowman contest as well. 7. UNFINISHED BUSINESS 8. Discuss Trailway and Sidewalk System: We need to focus on where we need more paths and what type of path each should be in conjunction with the Street and Utilities Committee and upcoming street project plans. Then to move forward with a comprehensive goal and future plans. Consider extending sidewalk at Long Lake Road and North County Line to Spring Lake Park Road. 9. NEW BUSINESS A. Discuss Ice Hockey and Skating Rink Improvements at Hillview Park: Staff will explore cost of boards and base material (aglime) as well as speak to resident at the north. Extend south side as close to light poles as possible. Consider planting some additional trees and add lighting on north side. Consider adding netting above the boards. Leave existing rink for younger children, broomball, and other activities. B. Recommend Applicants/Officers for PRF Commission Appointments (Jan. 2012-Dec. 2014). Three positions are ending this year, and two Commissioners have resubmitted applications. Dave Long has chosen to retire from the Park, Recreation, and Forestry Commission. Motion by Kroeger, 2nd by Kunz to accept the applications of the two commission applicants (Gerald Arel and Dale Aukee) and recommend applicants to the City Council for approval. Motion Passed 5-0 Motion by Kroeger, 2nd by Kunz for Cindy Palm to continue as secretary. Motion Passed 5-0. Motion by Kunz to appoint Aukee as Chairperson, and Peterson as Vice-Chairperson. In their absence the Commission feels we should wait until December after the City Council has approved the applications before nominating these positions. Motion fails for lack of second. 10. REPORTS A. Reports of Commission Members: 1. Request copy of BBC acceptance resolution and update BBC Contribution spreadsheet. 2. When should we have our annual meeting with the City Council? Wait until Rick Wriskey has information regarding the Emerald Ash Borer in January so we have a plan. Consider meeting with City Council February 6, 2012 at the Work Session. 3. Waiting to find out what killed the trees at Hillview Park. B. Reports of City Staff: 1. Lambert Park is moving forward. Waiting on state approval for plumbing before pouring cement. 23 spots for parking at 90º. 2. City Council agreed with Commission ice rink hours. 11. REQUESTS FOR FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS / OTHER BUSINESS A. Next Regular Commission Meeting: December 15, 2011 (*one week early) 1. BBC Funding status 2. Appoint Officers 3. Review Emerald Ash Borer Management Plan (Jan. 2012) 4. Discuss Long-Term City Forestry Options (Feb. 2012) 5. Park Focus - _____________________ 12.
