PARKS AND RECREATION AND FORESTRY COMMISSION

MEETING MINUTES
1. CALL TO ORDER at 6:33 PM
2. ROLL CALL: Commissioners: Kunz, Aukee, Peterson, Arel
Staff: Dazenski, Debar | YMCA: Danielson
3. APPROVAL OF AGENDA: Added Hillview Rink to Unfinished business and moved Playground
Improvement discussion to after 8C. Motion by Arel to approve amended agenda, 2nd by Kunz.
Motion Passed 4-0
4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
A. June 28, 2012 Meeting Minutes. Motion by Arel to approve, 2nd by Peterson. Motion Passed
4-0
5. PUBLIC INPUT
Citizens may speak to issues not on tonight’s agenda. Before speaking, please give your full
name and address. Please limit your comments to three minutes. No residents present.
6. STAFF REPORTS
A. YMCA REPORT
Numbers for park programs are good. Attendance is up 62% over last year. Programs are
into the second week and going well.
Timberwolves Clinic had 73 youth.
Senior Picnic is scheduled for July 25th 11-1:00 pm
Fall registration for soccer and other activities is now open and ends July 27th.
Music in the Park – Attendance was between 80-100 with a wide demographic represented.
Music in the Park continues the 3rd Thursday of July and August.
Safety camp is scheduled for August 15-16th
B. CITY STAFF REPORT
Community center roof is nearing completion
Shelter and park use is up, especially on weekends
Lambert shelter was vandalized with graffiti; the individuals were apprehended and graffiti
was removed
Water fountain has been installed at Hillview Park and the sidewalk has been modified to
meet ADA requirements
Frequent trimming and spraying has been required more frequently as a result of the rainfall
and heat
Mowing and trimming of parks and athletic fields continues
7. UNFINISHED BUSINESS
A. Discuss Trailway and Sidewalk System Plan:
No action taken over the past month. Commissioners are encouraged to review the current
document and provide feedback.
B. Hillview Ice Rink
Dimensions considered for the new rink is 70x150 and the rink could fit in the area north of
the current rink, which is an unused part of the park today. There would also be minimal
impact to the existing power/lighting poles. City staff will provide financials for this potential
project for the July meeting
Commissioner Palm joined the meeting at 7:15
8. NEW BUSINESS
A. Review Proposed County Road H Sidewalk Improvements: City Staff to explore a share of
the expense with the county for this project. Public input will be requested for the July Park,
Recreation and Forestry Commission Meeting.
B. Disbursement of the Bethlehem Baptist Church Mounds View Service Project Fund was
provided. The breakdown is as follows.
1. Club Mid $6,000
2. Music In the Park $1,000
3. Festival in the Park $2,500
4. Y-Partners $1,000
5. Flooring/Furniture in Hillview
and Groveland Park Shelters $3,000
6. Program Equipment $1,145
C. Playground Improvements at Lambert and Silverview Parks:
A design was put together by GameTime for Lambert Park. The recommendation was put
together based on the space provided. Commission will review the current design and an
alternative design as well as the Park Improvement Plan to see where spending is
budgeted for over the next few years for large budget items.
9. REPORTS
A. Reports of Commission Members:
1. Peterson requested an update on the furnishings for Lambert – Indoor and outdoor
furniture is ordered, but has not been delivered yet. The building is expected to be
rentable in the near future.
