APPROVAL OF MINUTES A. September 27, 2012 Meeting Minutes. Motion by Arel to approve, 2nd by Long. Motion Passed 6-0 5. PUBLIC INPUT Citizens may speak to issues not on tonight’s agenda. YMCA REPORT Teen Leaders Club (formerly Club Mid): New name and format with over 60 youth in the program Yoga is running again with a new teacher and a good number of attendees. Winter Session planning is in progress with jewelry making, indoor soccer, Adult Ballroom dance and basketball as well as other activities are in the works Fall Family Festival – Carnival, Haunted House, Spooky movie. October 27th from 11-1:00 p.m. Community Center Rentals are strong with a gymnastics meet, basketball tournaments and other smaller events Research was conducted on the field rental fee schedules for neighboring cities and provided B. CITY STAFF REPORT Update on Lambert Park: The building is complete, final signoff should happen very soon; furniture is on order; the playground is up and usable and the ballfield grading is complete and fencing is partially complete Project F Street Project area is in the planning stages Ribbon cutting for Lambert Park tentatively scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 17th. 7. UNFINISHED BUSINESS A. Review Park Improvement Plan 2013 projected items include Hillview Ice Rink, Silverview Playground Equipment and Parking lot improvements to Greenfield, tennis, basketball and volleyball court revitalization throughout the city as well as other smaller items. B. Review BBC Donations and Expenditure Status Contributions and the current status of all projects from 2005 through 2012 were reviewed 8. NEW BUSINESS A. Review Municipal Code Chapter 909: The chapter was reviewed and multiple items discussed. Public Works Director Debar will summarize and provide a revised document based on the discussion for review at comment at the November meeting 9. REPORTS A. Reports of Commission Members: No reports 10. REQUESTS FOR FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS / OTHER BUSINESS A. Next Regular Commission Meeting: November 15, 2012 @ 6:30 p.m. 1. Review PIP & future budget items 11. ADJOURNMENT: Motion to adjourn at 8:15 PM by Long, 2nd by Peterson. Motion Passed 6-0. Mounds View Community Center / YMCA Program Update 1. Programs: 1. Winter Session: Registration opens today!!! Highlights are Gaelic Football, jewelry making Zumbatomic family fitness 2. Fall Program: Ended up serving 477 people this season up about 35 from last year. 2. Community Events 1. Cookies with Santa - 10-12pm December 8th Cookies decorating, pictures with Santa, live music, snowman building contest, and hot chocolate. Redoing Wood Floor over Thanksgiving week Other Business a. 1/1 M E M O R A N D U M TO: PARKS AND RECREATION AND FORESTRY COMMISSION FROM: NICK DEBAR | PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR DATE: NOVEMBER 15, 2012 RE: RECOMMEND APPLICANTS/OFFICERS FOR PRF COMMISSION APPOINTMENTS Terms of two members of the current Parks and Recreation and Forestry Commission are set to expire at the end of this year. The current status of Commission memberships are as follows: Commission Member Term Expiration John Kroeger 12-31-2012 Darren Peterson 12-31-2012 Jerry Kunz 12-31-2013 Cindy Palm 12-31-2013 Gerald Arel 12-31-2014 Dale Aukee 12-31-2014 Dave Long 12-31-2014 The City is in the process of solicited applications from residents interested in serving on the Commission and three applications have been received to date (see attached). Two of the applicants are current Commissioners with terms expiring. The other applicant is a 12-year resident of Mounds View and works as a forest entomologist for the US Forest Service, with 22 years of forestry-related experience. The Commission will need to make appointment recommendations for the vacant seats and a Chair position for next year’s Commission meetings. These recommendations will be forwarded to the City Council for consideration. The City Council is anticipated to make appointments at their December 10, 2012 regular meeting. ITEM NO. 8A
