6. STAFF REPORTS
A. YMCA: Summer Program increasing over the summer, but still down in numbers from last
year. Fall Soccer registrations due Friday. Music-in-the-Park had hot weather, but good
family turnout. Last event is Thursday, August 15 before Festival in the Park. Family Fun
Run will be Aug. 17th. MVCC is being used with gym and Event Center. Looking at new
funding for a teen program, new vending options, new computer lab, and Silver Sneakers
launch coming soon. BBC funding allowed for free coffee at MVCC.
How is online registration working? About 10-15% of residents register online. Most are in
person.
Building rental update: Silverview is in high demand. Lambert is picking up. Random is
popular. Hillview and Groveland are back-up rental buildings that people may choose if
the others are booked. Direct Staff to gather more data on building rental numbers.
B. Public Works: Silverview playground installation will begin Monday, July 29th and take about
5 days. Working on irrigation repairs and modifications, park maintenance, and spraying for
weeds. Trees will be planted at Silverview Park once playground is installed. Seeing less
litter at disc golf course. Groveland Park will eventually have irrigation, changes in
landscape, turf improvements including removing volleyball court. Need to install
perimeters at the playground area and volleyball courts. Need to remove sand from
Random, Groveland, and City Hall playgrounds and put in fiberfill.
7. UNFINISHED BUSINESS
A. Review Park Improvement Plan: Still need clarification about funding sources for roof
replacement at Hillview and the Greenfield Park parking lot. What items are staff able
to address yet this year?
8. NEW BUSINESS
A. Recommend Expenditures for Upcoming Bethlehem Baptist Church Disbursement: Ideas
include flooring at Groveland and Hillview, furniture at Random and Groveland, lighting/park
security, picnic tables and trash container replacement, grills at various parks. Motion by
Kroeger, 2nd by Arel to recommend the following as potential items for funding from
Bethlehem Baptist Church: flooring at Groveland Park, furniture at Random Park,
and picnic equipment at various parks to include picnic tables, grills, and trash
containers as needed. Motion Passed 5-0
9. COMMISSIONER REPORTS:
A. Long: We really have great buildings at these parks, we need residents to use them!
B. Arel: Staff need to look at the bridge at Greenfield Park trail. Residents have had some
complaints about the trail and they are using the trail more often due to road construction.
C. Kroeger: We have 2 openings on the Commission for those who are interested. Goalie nets
are down at Silverview Park soccer fields. No one is officially renting the field, but it is being
used by organized groups. Do we post a sign notifying these groups and list fee rental? Do
we send an MVCC rep over nightly to notify the coaches?
D. Palm: Was contacted by a resident regarding the condition of Groveland Park. There are
concerns about the lawn and residents driving on it, as well as the ice condition and use of
the ice rink in the winter. Palm responded that some corrections are being addressed by the
street project, and the Commission recommended decreasing the warming house staffing
to weekends and ISD621 days off, and due to lack of use may not be flooded this winter.
