YMCA Leah Vandecar - See notes, Silver Sneakers going well, August Music in the Park will be the Tyrel and Aaron Show, a County Music act.. B. Public Works: Continue Field Maintenance, Big push to get projects done, adding a seasonal help in the fall. No storm damage but some Graffiti. 7. UNFINISHED BUSINESS A. Discuss Groveland Park Improvements, reviewed list, estimate $45,000 to irrigate, $100,000 to refurbish tennis courts. John thanked Park Staff for their excellent work. The infield of the ball field needs to be shrank. There was some discussion on adding a patio or pavilion to the back of the building. John asked for a time schedule of the park improvements. 8. NEW BUSINESS A. Consider Recommendation to Appoint Gary Rundle to Commission Arel, Katovich, and Kroeger agreed they could see no reason he should not be approved. Aukee asked if there was a conflict of interest, Councilman Gary Meehlhause was in attendance and said there was not. The consensus opinion was to recommend Gary Rundle to the council. B. Recommend Expenditures for Upcoming Bethlehem Baptist Church Disbursement – Aukee had some concern about Community Center advertising and promotion of programs. Comments were received from Councilman Gary Meehlhause about the BBC donation should be spent and that marketing was not a big issue noting everyone gets the Mounds View Matters. Don Peterson had some comments on Community Center desired improvements and remodeling. They are looking at adding a prep kitchen area for those who would like to bring their own food rather than have a caterer. They are also looking at moving the event coordinator’s office; Redo the fitness center and adding some low impact machines. Also there is an idea to make a room for seniors to congregate, play cards, etc. Don is getting the cost together and Nick is looking into funding. John made a motion to recommend BBC contribution be directed towards Groveland Park, specifically 1. Toddler Swing $2500, 2. New Player Benches $1400, 3. Picnic Tables $3600, 4. Bench by Playground $1200. Motion second by Arel, Passed. Additional comments were received from Councilman Gary Meehlhause. Gary told us about the Gateway City Association, the have 1 employee who’s responsibility is to promote the northern suburban cities. At the meeting, held at the community center, that employee gave them some suggestion for additional uses of the community center, specifically to promote it as a site for corporate off site meetings, as most events are currently weekend type events, and weekday usage is low. 9. COMMISSIONER REPORTS: Rice Creek Watershed will re-profile Ditch 5. Forestry Update: Received an extension till the end of year on the grant from DNR. The Lead Park Maintenance has a received some tree training and they are reviewing the employment of a consultant. Dale noted the instance of oak wilt was low, and it was noted that there have been no confirmed emerald ash borer infestations. 10. REQUESTS FOR FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS / OTHER BUSINESS 1. Review Fee Schedule for 2015 2. Sherri Gunn – City council attended League of Minn Cities in St. Cloud. She suggested we look at adding a Splash Pad Water Park for active free play. Benefits are low maintenance costs, Accessibility, Durability, Long lasting, Draw in people, Gathering point , No Staff needed, Installs like a playground, and is Wheel Chair Accessible. Several cities have them. Vortex (manufacture) has a nation purchase program as does Art for Water Play. PRF has the support of the Council and City Administrator. Location is a question, Silver View Park, Community Center or City Hall Park? Suggested dates and hours would be May thru September 10am to 8pm. Also she suggested adding a shade and benches, etc. Estimated cost $300,000 to $700,000. The one at Cottage Grove cost $465,000. 3. Disc Golf at Silverview 11. Closing a strong summer. New fall program include. Kids Cooking, Indoor Volleyball League and grant funded program for preschool. Come play with me. b. AOA Programing i. Pickelball T/TH starting back up, SilverSneakers Yoga, and Senior Wellness program. 2. Events a. Weekends are booked till December; we are at about 65% booked for the 2015 season at this point. 3. Building a. Fall hours begin after Labor Day. Oak Grove and Medtronic will resume their usage of the gym this week as well. 4. Park Rentals a.
