RESOLUTION APPROVING FULL TIME FACILITIES CUSTODIAN JOB
DESCRIPTION AND AUTHORIZE RECRUITMENT PROCESS
WHEREAS, Council recommended approval of the City operating a Parks and
Recreation Department during their October 12, 2020 meeting; and
WHEREAS, a job description has been created for the Facilities Custodian; and
WHEREAS, the Human Resources Committee has had an opportunity to review
the job description; and
WHEREAS, staff is requesting authorization to hire one (1) Facilities Custodian;
and
WHEREAS, the Facilities Custodian will be a full-time non-exempt position
reporting to the Parks and Recreation Superintendent; and
WHEREAS, wages for this position are:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mounds View City Council
Approves the Job Description for the Facilities Custodian as shown in Exhibit A
(attached), and authorizes staff to begin a recruitment process.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE:
Facilities Maintenance
DEPARTMENT:
Parks and Recreation
ACCOUNTABLE TO:
Director of Public Works/Parks and Recreation
FLSA STATUS:
Non -Exempt Full Time
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION
Performs full-time general internal and external facilities maintenance and custodial duties for City facilities
including City Hall, Community Center, Park Shelters, and Public Works Facility. Work requires the safe and
efficient operation of a variety of small equipment, hand and power tools.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the general guidance and direction of the Parks and Recreation Superintendent.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
None.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs custodial/cleaning/maintenance duties at City Hall, Community Center, Park Shelters, and Public
Works Facility:
• Perform custodial duties such as cleaning/disinfecting sinks, toilets, drinking fountain, mirrors, and
doorknobs; vacuuming; wet mopping; empty trash and recycling; refill soap dispensers, paper towel
dispensers, toilet paper, and other similar duties.
• Notifies Superintendent of needed building maintenance and custodial items and maintains inventory list.
• Perform turf/landscape maintenance such as weeding, mulching, watering, raking, debris removal from
roof and grounds and other such similar duties as assigned.
• Perform light building maintenance and minor repairs, including carpentry, patching and painting walls,
replacing ceiling tiles, unclogging drains, assembling and repairing furniture and other similar duties.
• Perform snow removal from sidewalks with shovel, and if needed, power equipment.
• Monitor general condition of the building, facilities, and equipment, and notifies superintendent of items
needing repair or replacement. Perform preventive and routine maintenance of items and make minor
repairs and/or take corrective action as necessary.
• Maintain logs and records such as snow removal, building maintenance and equipment repair as
directed.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Keep work areas in safe, clean and organized condition.
• Attend and participate in both internal and external training.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• One (1) year experience as a part-time or full-time custodian.
• Physically able to perform job duties.
• Valid Minnesota Driver's License.
DESIRED QUALIFICIATIONS
0 Possession of a valid boilers license.

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Ability to work independently and with minimum supervision.
• Ability to follow oral and written communication.
• Ability to be tactful and courteous in dealing with public or staff while performing duties.
• Knowledge of and ability to use hand and electric tools.

or hear.
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100
pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The
employee must have a sense of smell.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while
performing the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts. The
employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid
conditions, fumes or airborne particles and toxic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to the risk of
electrical shock.
