RESCINDING RESOLUTION 9427, INSTALLING NETTING TO THE SILVER VIEW
BASEBALL OUTFIELD FENCE
WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation and Forestry Commission as well as Public Works
Staff, has received several complaints over the years of softballs hitting the homes located in the
Silver Lake Woods Association located east of the baseball fields; and
WHEREAS, the Commission requested Staff obtain proposals for installing netting on
top of the chain link fence in the right and left outfields of the ballfields at Silver View Park; and
WHEREAS, Staff received two options from Century Fence of Forest Lake MN as follows:
1. Installing a 20' high netting on top of the chain link fence line - 30' on the west
fence line and 130' on the east fence line at a cost of $25,915.00
WHEREAS, the City Council Approved the resolution 9427 at the May 10, 2021 City
Council Meeting, accepting the proposal from Century Fence of Forest Lake, MN. for the
installation of a 20 foot netting to the outfield fence line at Silver View Park softball/baseball fields
for a total of $25,915.00; and
WHEREAS, Public Works Staff contacted the vendor after the May 10, 2021 Council
meeting to schedule the installation of the netting. At that time the contractor informed staff the
cost of the project would need to be re -visited and adjusted; and
WHEREAS, Public Works Staff received the revised cost proposal and the new cost for
installing the netting increased to $30,700.00. Staff informed the vendor that this would need to
be brought back the Commission and City Council for approval; and
WHEREAS, The Parks and Recreation and Forestry Commission reviewed this item at
the June 24- 2021 meeting and voted to have this item be brought back to the City Council and
have resolution 9427 rescinded; and
WHEREAS, Staff as well as the Parks and Recreation and Forestry Commission
recommends approval of rescinding Resolution 9427.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Mounds View,
Ramsey County, Minnesota as follows:
1. Rescinds Resolution 9427 Accepting the proposal from Century Fence of Forest Lake,
MN. for the installation of a 20 foot netting to the outfield fence line at Silver View Park
softball/baseball fields for a total of $25,915.00
