STATE OF MINNESOTA
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING ADDITIONAL COMPENSATION FOR
DEPUTY CHIEF BENJAMIN ZENDER TO WORK IN HIGHER JOB CLASSIFICATION
WHEREAS, Chief Nate Harder will be taking a leave of absence due to a work related
injury beginning January 10, 2022; and
WHEREAS, during Chief Harder's absence, Deputy Chief Benjamin Zender has agreed
to serve as Interim Chief, in order to cover the higher job classification responsibilities, while
maintaining his own job duties as the Deputy Chief; and
WHEREAS, Deputy Chief Zender is due for a wage adjustment January 22, 2022, staff
suggests placing Interim Chief Zender at Step 4 of the Chief wage as of January 10, 2022, where
he will receive an incentive for providing coverage of both positions during the Chiefs absence;
and
WHEREAS, when Chief Harder returns to full-time active duty and Interim Chief Zender
returns to the position of Deputy Chief, Deputy Chief Zender will return to the position at Step 5
of the Deputy Chief Pay Plan.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mounds View City Council approves:
1. Authorizing additional compensation for Benjamin Zender working in a higher job
classification effective January 10, 2022 until Chief Harder returns to full-time active
duty.
2. Compensation for Benjamin Zender will increase to Step 4 of the Chief Pay Plan
effective January 10, 2022.
3. Compensation for Benjamin Zender will change to Step 5 of the Deputy Chief Pay Plan
when Chief Harder returns to active full-time duty.
