Jim Paron, Resident 3 EDC Accomplishments 2008 to Current Retail Trade Analysis Purpose to understand Mounds View’s precise measures of sales activity Conducted by the U of M Extension office Created Targeted Business List Specialty Retail: Hardware store, Jewelry store, Florist Big Box Retail: Grocery store Professional Office/Services: Medical or dental clinic, Optometrist office, Financial institutions, Funeral home Sit-down Restaurants Redevelopment Roundtable Attendees: City Council, EDC, City Staff, Developer Mike Tobin, Commercial Real Estate Brokers Mike Simpson and Gary Nordness, Consultants Jay Demma and Jim Crowl Prompted Mounds View Branding Project 4 EDC Accomplishments Continued… Mounds View Branding Project Request for Proposals Resident & Business Surveys Logo Economic Development Chapter of 2008 Comprehensive Plan 14 pages Goals: Business Development (Retention/Recruitment) and Redevelopment Initiated 2nd Effort to Rename County Rd 10 Spring 2010 EDC recommendations to the Council to fund signage updates in the 2011 budget to accommodate a new name for County Road 10 as it passes through Mounds View and to consider “Mounds View Boulevard” as the additional name for County Road 10 Four New Home Improvement Loans Demolition, Code Enforcement, General Home Repair & Emergency 5 2011 EDC Priorities Development/redevelopment along the County Rd 10 corridor Potential name change for County Rd 10 Premium Stop Redevelopment Area Silver View Plaza Complete remaining trailway connections to businesses PAK building Select Senior Living Improve the aesthetics of properties in the County Rd 10 corridor Vacant BP gas station site Reconstruction of County Rd 10 6 2011 EDC Priorities Continued… Monitor and assist with Citywide housing issues and projects Implement an informal business retention program Continue budgeting to implement the Mounds View Branding Project Monitor development plans for the TCAAP site in Arden Hills Monitor Mounds View properties in transition Skyline Motel redevelopment Support the implementation of the Citywide Street & Utility Improvement Program 7 2011 City Council Goals (Subsets Related to Economic Development) Goal 1 Address Immediate Budget Constraints and Achieve Budget Sustainability Goal 2 Enhance City Revenue Streams Subset: Focus on County Highway 10 Development and Redevelopment Goal 3 Continue Implementing the Street and Utility Improvement Program Goal 4 Continue Emphasis on Code Enforcement throughout the City Subset: Continue Focus on Issues Relating to Home Foreclosures and Vacancies Goal 5 Assess and Improve Community Center Operations Goal 6 Continue to Encourage Public Participation and Improve Communications Subset: Increase outreach to the business community 8 Implementing Council & EDC Goals Action Item: Increase Business Outreach Double amount of contact with businesses from 2010 to 2011 (from 12 to 24) Council/EDC members to attend monthly Mounds View Business Council meetings Continue October Manufacturer’s Week event Continue publishing monthly electronic business newsletter Action Item: Continue Code Enforcement Continue promoting home improvement loans Action Item: Redevelop County Rd 10 EDA to clearly define the City’s role in the redevelopment of the corridor 9
