re: Pinewood Elementary Play System Replacement

I thought I would let the Council know, in case anyone is interested, that the school district is
planning on replacing the Pinewood Elementary play system.
Constructed in 1985, the wooden system is becoming too expensive to maintain and repair, as some
of the wooden pieces have begun to rot, split and break. In addition, there is a concern that child
safety will be compromised with continued usage. Also mentioned as a reason to replace the system
is that there are accessibility issues that were not addressed in the original plan.
The new play system which would be constructed in the same area, would incorporate more tubular
metal and durable plastic components. In addition to the typical components, a rock climbing wall
would be included in the new system. Attached to this report is a components list that will likely be
included in the bid package, along with a proposed layout of the play area.

SECTION 02441 -PLAY EQUIPMENT
1. GENERAL
1.1. SCOPE OF WORK
1.1,1, This Section includes all labor, equipment, tools and required services necessary to install Play
equipment and plastic play area curb supplied by the City and all labor, equipment, tools and
required services to install the specified safety surfacing and underdrainage.
These improvements include but are not limited to:
Provide and install play equipment
Provide and install safety -surfacing-
Provide and install underdrainage syst6m.
12. QUALITY ASSURANCE
1.2.1. Use adequate numbers of skilled workmen who are thoroughly trained and experienced in the
necessary crafts and who are completely familiar with the specified requirements. and methods for
proper performance of the work of this Section.
1.3, SUBMITTALS
1,3.1, The Contractor shall submit drawings and product sheets describing all play equipment, safety
surfacing,

2.1, Play equipment
2.1.1. The following play equipment manufacturers will be approved suppliers if the products that they
propose to provide are determined, during the bid period, to be similar to the specified products
relafive to quality, materials, and play opportunity as determined by the Owner. The specified
products are by Playworld Systems.
