How quickly it speeds by. With Festival over, we have put our energies towards playing "TicketMaster" for the MVCT performance "Annie". It looks to be a very popular and fun performance. I hope you all have a chance to see it. Our agenda is light. We have a lot of reporting to do, but little if any action. I look forward to seeing you. If you are unable to attend the meeting please call me at 784-0618. Commissioner Long has a business trip and will be unable to attend. • If time allows, I'd like us all to go to Random Park to look at the new playground equipment. It is to be installed Tuesday, July 23 and 24. Rm. C., City Hall CALL TO ORDER: Commissioner Silvis called the meeting to order. ROLL CALL: Commissioners present included Silvis, Gunn, Dentz, Stevenson, and Burmeister. Council Member Trude and staff members Saarion, Burke and Singleton were also present. APPROVAL • OF MINUTES: Minutes of May 23, 1996 meeting were unanimously approved. INTERN INTRODUCTIONS: Director Saarion introduced summer interns Margaret Burke and Andy Singleton. They shared a little of their experiences, education and internship responsibilities. CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT REVIEW: Director Saarion requested the Commission to look at the five year long term financial plan before it is submitted to the City Council. Items were listed to reflect the goals and objectives of the Commission. Athletic field fencing for safety has been listed for 1997, 1998 and 1999. Also included is the garden shack for Woodcrest Park. The Commission wanted to make sure that picnic tables were included in capital purchases as replacement for older ones and also to provide more picnic tables for use especially at City Hall and Silver View Park. After reviewing the LTFP, Commissioner Silvis made a motion seconded by Commissioner Burmeister to approve the LTFP - to be forwarded to the City Council for review. The motion passed unanimously. PROGRAM • REVIEW: Director Saarion reported on several special events and activities that are upcoming including the AAU Regional Baseball Tournament at Silver View Park, the Festival in the Park, and the MVCT production "Annie". • Also, Director Saarion thanked Commissioners for their help during the Bicycle Safety Clinic at which time over 120 helmets were distributed to community youth - FREE. Director Saarion reported that Sharie Linke had submitted an Arts Grant that was awarded - providing entertainment for Festival and the Sr. Day in the Park which had over 180 seniors in attendance. New programs such as Teen Dance Color Guard, Travelling Playground and Sports Rap were also discussed. ICE ARENA: Council Member Trude reported on the ice arena project that has been proposed at the MN Amateur Sports Arena in Blaine. It was reported that the four cities and school dist. 621 have been studying proposal, reviewing feasibility studies and financing programs. The project is very dependant on other partners - and it is a process of making sure that all parties are in agreement and the risks to cities minimal. More information to come later. COMMUNITY CENTER: Council Member Trude asked the Commission to provide her with input regarding the Community Center. The preliminary space plans were reviewed. Spaces were discussed. Possible uses and programs were suggested. Commissioner Stevenson made a motion seconded by Commissioner Silvis to recommend that the City Council investigate the • renovation of the Bel Rae with the addition of a gymnasium with creative financing that will provide services at the community facility as feasibility as possible. Motion passed unanimously. ADJOURNMENT: Commissioner Silvis made a motion seconded by Commissioner Gunn to adjourn the meeting. The two trees,adjacent to the burned toilet, are a Kindred green ash(6" diameter) and a Redmond Linden (7" diameter). The replacement cost of each tree would be $900.00 a piece. Both trees, I • believe/will likely survive the damage but have sustained 10% and 40% crown/branch loss. Thus, the damage estimate would be $360.00 and $90.00 respectively. The trees will be monitored for the remainder of this year. Any required trimming of dead branches will be done by me. silvpk.mem • • RANDOM PARK PLAYGROUND OPEN HOUSE Come meet Barney's friend. The new playground at Random Park needs to be introduced to young children of the community. We wish to invite you to a "getting to know you" party at Random Park - to introduce you to the new playground equipment. Come Thursday, September 26 at 6:30 p.m. at Random Park. Cookies, coffee and punch will be served to parents while children try out the new playground equipment. Random Park is located at 5214 Long Lake Road. mii/o4doz/ • FALL COMPOST TIMES Ramsey County Compost facility is located at Arden Park off of Long Lake Road and Arden Avenue.
