CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 6:32 p.m.
by Chairperson Wayne Burmeister.
ROLL CALL Commissioners present: Starr, Burmeister, •
Silvis, Long, Rowley
Commissioners absent: Daniels, Anderson
Councilmembers present : Hankner
Staff present: Director Saarion,
Administrative Assistant Linke
Visitors: Richard Kops, 2147 Oakwood Dr.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES A motion was made by Commissioner Silvis,
seconded by Commissioner Long to approve the
June 25, 1987 minutes as written. The motion
• passed unanimously; 5 ayes, 0 nayes.
CHAIRPERSON' S REPORT Chairperson Burmeister reported that trees
were taken down on the southwest side of the
Manor Home drive and requested staff to
find out if they were City trees.
COUNCILMEMBER' S
REPORT Councilmember Hankner reported that the
Random Park classroom building will be on the
council meeting agenda to hear the comments
and concerns of citizens.
RESIDENT CONCERN Resident Richard Kops requested to address the
Commission regarding his concerns at Oakwood
Park. Mr. Kops expressed concern about usage
of Oakwood Park by baseball teams and older
softball teams. He said he had experienced
occasions when foul tips were hit into his
yard and felt that it was a dangerous
situation.
Staff explained the policy on field permits
and the amount of usage of fields expecially
early in the spring. Chairperson Burmeister
added that the Commission did not choose to
• change their current policy on field usage.

Staff went on to explain that most coaches would
not request a field that was inadequate for
their team. However, the instance that Mr.
Kops was referring to occurred early in the
Spring when teams are clamoring for field
space for practices. Staff added that the
department has made an effort to issue permits
for fields that meet the needs of the specific
teams. However, there is the case of pick-up
games and fields not reserved through the
recreation department that are uncontrollable.
PARK TOUR The Commission adjourned for a tour of
Greenfield and Groveland parks.
STAFF REPORT Staff reviewed park projects and recreation
programs including: Community Theater, summer
playgrounds, shelter building painting,
Groveland tennis court lighting plans, Silver
View pathway project, the State Class "C"
Women' s tournament and "Festival in the Park" .
• ADJOURNMENT A motion was made by Commissioner Long,
seconded by Commissioner Staff to adjourn the
meeting at 8:05 p.m. Motion passed
unanimously; 5 ayes, 0 nayes.
