CALL TO
ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 6: 30 p.m. by
Chairperson Burmeister.
ROLL CALL: Commissioners present: Chairperson Burmeister,
Commissioners Starr, Trettel, Dentz, and Long.
Commissioners absent: Silvis and Stevenson
Councilmember present: Wuori
Staff present: Saarion, Director
APPROVAL OF
MINUTES: Commissioner Trettel made a motion, seconded by
Commission Dentz to approve the minutes of the
January 23 , 1992 minutes. Motion passes, 5 Ayes,
0 Nayes.
. REPORTS: There were no special reports by Chairperson
Burmeister or Councilmember Wuori.
UPDATES: Director Saarion updated the Commission on several
projects. The RSCC is continuing to be a viable
group meeting twice each month. The bill has been
introduced at the Legislature in committee but no
news yet. Many Seniors have been attending the
meetings.
Vandalism at Silver View: There was an incident
where vandals pryed the door open, cutting the
bolts and entering the kitchen, breaking the cover
of the electrical meter and cutting the locks on
the serving window.
The ice skating season has ended. Statistics will
be provided at the March meeting.
The Trailways Advocacy Group meeting will be held
on March 5 at 7: 00 p.m. Director Saarion will
facilitate the meeting and Commissioner Stevenson
will serve as the City Representative from the
Planning and Parks and Recreation Commission. \
• The letter in the packet regarding the permit for
wetland alterations informs us that the permit is
now on hold until which time the two agencies
agree on the guidelines of criteria. SEH
indicated that it does mean a longer time to
wait, but that it probably doesn't hinder our
chances for approval.
LAKESIDE PARK: At 7: 00 p.m. the Spring Lake Park Recreation
Commission arrived for the joint meeting regarding
operation of Lakeside Park this summer. Both
proposals I and II were reviewed (in the packet) .
It was a mutual agreement by both Commissions that
the activities at the park this summer should
provide for the greatest amount of lifeguarding
services possible because of the favorable water
conditions this year.
A motion was made by Chairperson Burmeister and
seconded by Commissioner Long to recommend to the
City Council the operation of Proposal II which
calls for the use of Fund Balance monies plus the
budgeted monies to provide for 6 weeks of
lifeguarding staff every day of the week. The
motion passed, 5 Ayes, 0 Nayes. Motion passed.
Commissioners Starr and Dentz agreed to attend the
City Council work session on
Monday, March 9, 1992 to confirm
the Commissioner's recommendation •
to the City Councilmembers
regarding the request to spend a
portion of the Fund Balance for
this summers beach operations.
Commissioner Trettel suggested that a donation box
be available at Lakeside Park for contributions by
patrons, similar to boxes found at Como Zoo.
Also, it was suggested that a raffle could be held
every week with the reward being a free rental of
the water equipment. These ideas and other will
be reviewed as fund raisers.
ADJOURNMENT: Commissioner Long made a motion, seconded by
Commissioner Starr to adjourn the meeting. Motion
passed, 5 Ayes, 0 Nayes. Meeting adjourned at
7:30 p.m.
