HomeMy WebLinkAbout1992-07-23 PRF Minutes MINUTES OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION CITY OF MOUNDS VIEW COUNTY OF RAMSEY STATE OF MINNESOTA July 23 , 1992 6: 30 p.m. Council Chambers The Commission met at Lakeside Park for a short joint meeting with the Spring Lake Park Recreation Commission to review Lakeside Park operations. After the short meeting the Commission returned to City Hall Council Chambers for the regular Commission meeting. CALL TO ORDER: Chairperson Burmeister called the meeting to order at 7: 15 p.m. ROLL CALL: Commissioners present: Chairperson Burmeister, Commissioners Silvis, Starr, Dentz, Long, Trettel and Stevenson. • Staff present: Director Saarion along with Parks Maintenance workers Steve Dazenski, Jeff Weinke, and Dave Mork. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Commissioner Silvis made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Starr to approve the minutes of June 26, 1992 . Motion passed. 7 ayes, 0 nayes. COSTS FOR PAVED TRAILS: Director Saarion provided information regarding the costs to pave trailways, as requested by the Commission. The cost is approximately $12 . 00 per linear foot for asphalt paving. The distances were given for the trailways at Silver View from Silver Lake Road to the parking lot and the distances from City Hall Park parking lot around the ballfield to the picnic shelter and looping back to the parking lot. A total of both was 1, 859 feet. The cost would be approximately $22 , 308 . 00. The Commission decided to store this information and have it ready in the occasion that extra money is available at the end of the year for these projects. . PARKS MAINT. ACTIVITIES: The Commission was introduced to Steve and Jeff and Dave. Discussion regarding different park activities and ideas were addressed. It was one request of the Parks Crew for the removal of the 41, Random Park "hill" . The Commission thought that it would be advisable to rid of the hill since it does not have a useful purpose and is a maintenance headache. Chairperson Burmeister made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Silvis to rid of the "hill" at Random Park. Motion passed, 7 ayes, 0 nayes. ARDAN PARK: The Commission discussed the situation at Ardan Park regarding the dumping of brush and other materials. The Commission was strongly in favor of having the City fine those people who dump whenever they can be caught. Director Saarion reminded the Commission that the Master Plan for Ardan Park includes a passive area park of picnicking areas, trailways, benches, swing benches and small playground for tots. Director Saarion expressed her concern that Ardan Park is becoming a dumping site which is a different use of the park as a passive park site. FALL PROGRAMS: Director Saarion reported that the Fall brochure is in the process of being prepared and that Fall registrations will begin the first of September. III MVCT TICKETS: Director Saarion reported that the MVCT production of "CAMELOT" tickets were available for sale. Opening night is July 24 , 1992 . GOLF COURSE TASK FORCE: The Commission was asked to offer a representative to be on the Golf Course Task Force. Gary Stevenson will be representing the Parks and Recreation Commission and Scott Dentz will be the alternate. ADJOURNMENT: Commissioner Silvis made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Long to adjourn the meeting. Motion passed, 7 ayes, 0 nayes.
