HomeMy WebLinkAbout1994-03-24 PRF MinutesPARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION MINUTES THURSDAY MARCH 24 1994 CALL TO ORDER: Chairperson Burmeister called the meeting to order at 6:40 p.m. ROLL CALL: For the first time in several years, the Parks and Recreation Commission did not have a quorum. Members present included Chair Burmeister and Commissioners Silvis and Dentz. Councilmember Trude was also present. Staff included Director Saarion. Commissioners absent included Long, Starr, Trettel and Stevenson. 1994 GOALS: Commission reviewed goals for 1994, to be presented to the City Council at the Work Session on Monday, April 4, 1994. MAXFIELD REPORT: This report was reviewed and all present agreed that it did not look too promising. The issue will be reviewed again at the next meeting with all Commissioners present. RINK REVIEW: Director Saarion reviewed the statistics of the season and updated the Commission on the issue of chippy ice. PARK FACILITY USAGE: Director Saarion asked the Commission to review the policies and process for any changes that need to occur. Staff has already begun to take reservations and complete requests for field use. OUTDOOR REC GRANTS: Director Saarion reviewed the two grants that will be submitted with Commission recommendation and Council approval. One is the development of golf course park area for nature observation and trails and the other is the purchase of two lots in the south west side of the City for neighborhood park. The Commission agreed that both these projects follow their goals. PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE: Director Saarion updated the Commission regarding the two grants for the installation of a pedestrian bridge across Highway 10. The Commission was in full agreement that this is needed and support the grant submission. GOLF COURSE UPDATE: Director Saarion updated the Commission on the bids received for the construction of the golf course and announced that the recommended company is Veit, of whom have had good references. Also, Williams, Gill and Assoc. has taken much time to review the bid items. They are confident that the bid is a good one and that Veit will do a good job. PARK CLEANUP ACTIVITIES: Director Saarion announced that Saturday, April 23 is the Clean-up Day and that several scout troops will. be cleaning the neighborhood parks, Silver Lake Woods Homeowners Assoc. will clean up Silver View and the EQC will be cleaning up Groveland Park. SPECIAL PRESENTATION: Chairperson Burmeister was presented with a plaque thanking him for all his work on the surveying details of Silver View Park path paving last summer, 1993. Wayne saved the City a lot of money which would have had to been contracted out at hefty costs. Much appreciation to Wayne! THANKS TO REG ASST.: Also, thanks to all the Commissioners who helped during youth athletic registrations on Saturday, March 16 including Scott Dentz, Pam Starr, Gary Stevenson and Dave Long. The registration went smoothly because of their assistance. REVIEW PARK NAMING RES.: Director Saarion had a second draft of the resolution for naming of parks and park facilities for Commission review. It is short and sweet. The Commission thought that it was fine and will be presented at the April 4 work session. ADJOURNNMENT: Commissioners adjourned the meeting at 7:30 p.m.
