HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOMMISSION_MINUTES_1995-06-22 MOUNDS VIEW PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES Thursday, June 22 , 1995 6 : 30 p.m. , City Hall CALL TO ORDER: Chair Burmeister called the meeting to order. ROLL CALL: Commissioners present: Starr, Burmeister, Dentz , Silvis. Councilmember Quick and Director Saarion were also present. MINUTES : The minutes of March 23 and April 27 were approved unanimously. LTFP: Director Saarion reviewed the updated 1996 proposed LTFP with the Commission. Discussion regarding priorities ensued. It was determined that safety concerns should be a priority for park improvements. Woodcrest Park improvements are a • priority, but it is realized that if grant monies are not awarded, Woodcrest Park improvement priority would be repair of the building. The Pedestrian Bridge is also a priority of the Commission. Other replacement needs including playground equipment, picnic tables and trash receptacles are a priority. The motion to approve these priority park long term needs was made by Wayne Burmeister and seconded by Scott Dentz . Motion passed unanimously. GOALS : Director Saarion reviewed the Commission ' s 1995 goals. The Commission acknowledged commitment to these goals, however, understood that these goals may not be accomplished this year. The Pedestrian Bridge was of special interest of the Commissioners. They were very distressed to hear that the project was not forwarding, that funding was not dedicated to this project. They asked what could be done to forward the project_ Councilmember Quick suggested that they get the word out to other residents and come to a City Council meeting and express their concerns. Also, letter writing campaigns were suggested. Commissioners discussed was of getting the word IIMout to other people of the community. Commissioners will continue to advocate for the Pedestrian Bridge. PARK MAINTENANCE: Staff updated the Commission on park maintenance activities. Commissioner Starr noted that a dead animal was behind Groveland Park near the storm water drain. Staff will look into this matter. MVCT: Commissioner Silvis reported that the MVCT was busy with production work including set construction, rehearsals, costuming, program ad sales, etc. Many volunteers contribute to the work of the production. Fund raising was done at the Festival . FESTIVAL: Staff reported that the Festival Committee had everything ready to go. The parade had six bands, committees had many activities booked. Perfect weather has been ordered. OTHER BUSINESS: Commissioner Burmeister requested advertisement for additional Commissioners to fill the void left by Edd Trettel . ADJOURNMENT: Commissioner Silvismade a motion, seconded by Commissioner Starr to adjourn the meeting. Motion • passed unanimously.
