Procedure for Filling and Park and Recreation Commissioners Position
Time line for selecting a new Parks and Recreation Commissioner.
A rough timeline is listed below:
Date Action:
October 19 Commissioner notified staff of resignation
November 15 City contacts previous applicants to see if they are still interested in the seat. If so, ask to submit new application and give them a copy of the previous application.
November 16 Park and Recreation Commissioners announce the vacant seat and deadline to submit an application at a regularly scheduled meeting.
November 17 Submit an advertisement to the City’s official newspaper (New Brighton / Mounds View Bulletin) advertising the vacant position and info on obtaining an application *
November 17 Request to publish the ad on the City's web site.
November 17 Add vacant seat information to City message board
Nov.22/Dec 6 Advertisement is published
November 22 Add to the agenda and submit a Resolution thanking the Commissioner for his / her service
November 27 Council adopts resolution recognizing Commissioner.
Nov.27/Dec 4 The vacant seat is announced at the next City Council Meeting. How to obtain an application, and the deadline for submittal are also announced.
December 18 Deadline to receive applications *
December 21 Park and Recreation Commissioners provide a recommended candidate
January 4 Give applications to the City Council for review along with the Park and Recreation Commissioners recommendation. The City Council will select a recommended candidate.
January 8 City Council approves a candidate to fill the seat.
January 9 Public Works Director or Parks Supervisor contacts the newly selected Commissioner
January 10 The Park and Recreation Commissioners list is update and the new Commissioner is added to the database and email list.
January 25 New Commissioner is sworn in
* It is advantageous to set a deadline of the Monday (at 4:30 P.M.) just prior to a Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting to submit an application. This way the Commissioners can
provide a recommendation to the Mayor.
