HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOMMISSION_MINUTES_1999-09-22O MOUNDS VIEW Exhibit B Parks and Recreation Commission September 22, 1999 Minutes Commissioners present: Frank Silvis, Mary Benz, Dave Long, Gary Stevenson, Stan McDonald, Dawn Little, Theresa Lexcen, Mayor Dan Coughlin(as council liason, replacing Rob Marty). Commissioners absent: Sherry Gunn and Rich Sonnterre Staff present: Steve Dazenski (Parks Foreman) and Terri Blattenbauer(YMCA). The evening was spent informally in the Mounds View Parks. Steve drove the group with the Lions bus from park to park. The objective of the trek, as we plan long term, was to look at the park facilities, equipment, and amenities and make comments for discussion at our next regular meeting. The parks in which we visited were: Lambert, Oakwood, Greenfield, Hillview, Groveland, Silverview, and Random. Darkness became an issue towards the end of the evening. The following are some suggestions, or conversations noted: Remove or replace the grills at Groveland Repair fence at Hillview Article in the Mounds View Matters regarding the new paths Basketball court at Oakwood Visit St. Anthony park system. They have revamped their parks. It may be a good idea to have a representative attend a P & R Commission meeting. Graffiti/vandalism is an issue in parks Replacement of park shelters with brick buildings Park update and residential watch request in MV Matters Addition of sideline fences at Lambert nextWewillcontinuediscussionontheparkvisitandlongrangeplanningatourne meeting. Staff informed the Commission of the upcoming Y Partners campaign,which is an annual fundraising campaign to raise money for kids and families in Mounds View. Pledge cards will be available at the next regular meeting. The Showers and changing rooms was approved by the Council and work with the architect is underway. The goal for completion is the end of the year. Meeting adjourned at Random park at 8 p.m. Next meeting: October 27, at City Hall
