CITY OF MOUNDS VIEW
COUNTY OF RAMSEY
STATE OF MINNESOTA
AUTHORIZE PAYMENT IN ADVANCE THE COMPLETE
TUITION FOR CSO ASA OVERTON, WHICH IS OUTSIDE
THE POLICE DEPARTMENT TUITION REIMBURSEMENT POLICY
WHEREAS, Resolution 9744 approved the Police Referral Policy and Police Tuition
Reimbursement Policy; and
WHEREAS, Resolution 9943 approved hiring Community Service Officers at the City,
which is a way to prepare Law Enforcement students with on the job training to become Police
Officers for the City of Mounds View; and
WHEREAS, to encourage current and future Community Service Officers to remain with
the City, staff is requesting to go outside the parameters of the Police Tuition Reimbursement
Policy and pay upfront the balance for the final required Law Enforcement course, SKILLS, to
become a Police Officer in Minnesota; and
WHEREAS, staff requests Council authorization as the policy states employees will
receive 50% of tuition prior to the class beginning and 50% when the course is
successfully completed; and
WHEREAS, the remainder of the policy will be followed for reimbursement if
requirements of course completion are not met.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mounds View City Council does
authorize the following:
o Tuition payment in advance to CSO Asa Overton for SKILLS Training, which is
outside the Police Department Tuition Reimbursement Policy.
o CSO Overton will submit the original college invoice for payment.
o CSO Overton will follow the Police Department Tuition Reimbursement Policy
