HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 10108 - 2025/06/09RESOLUTION NO. 10108 CITY OF MOUNDS VIEW COUNTY OF RAMSEY STATE OF MINNESOTA APPROVING REVISIONS TO THE RECREATION COORDINATOR JOB DESCRIPTION TO RECREATION COORDINATOR/SUPERVISOR WHEREAS, Recreation Coordinator Maddie Margo inquired regarding a change to her job title, requesting to incorporate the word Supervisor, as the position provides supervision to seasonal staff throughout the year; and WHEREAS, Staff reviewed the current Recreation Coordinator job description and discovered the following duty listed from the 2023 classification study: Train, direct, schedule, supervise, and evaluate staff, including ice rink attendants, seasonal referees, seasonal summer program staff, and youth development staff. Staff and the HR Committee concur Supervisor should be added to the current job title. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mounds View City Council does hereby approve Revisions to the Recreation Coordinator Job Description to Recreation Coordinator/Supervisor. Adopted this 9th June, 2025. strom, Mayor ATTEST: Nyle Zi un y Administrator Exhibit A MOUNDS VIEW JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Recreation Coordinator/Supervisor Grade: 6 Supervisor Title: Parks and Recreation Superintendent Department: Parks and Recreation FLSA Status: Non-exempt Date Reviewed: 02�'�� 06/09/2025 Minimum Qualifications of Education and Experience: ➢ High School Diploma or GED. ➢ Minimum three (3) years of experience coordinating, planning and implementing youth and adult recreational programming. ➢ Minimum two (2) years of coordinator experience. ➢ One (1) year experience with document imaging (i.e. Laserfiche). Nature of Work: This position provides technical work including planning, organizing, and administering various youth and adult recreational programs. They prepare and maintain appropriate records and related work as apparent or assigned. Communicates with: Internally — All City staff Externally — Vendors and general public Supervision: This position will provide leadership to Parks and Recreation part-time, temporary staff, seasonal Parks and Recreation employees, and volunteers, when assigned. Essential Work Functions (Illustrative Only): • Coordinates, plans, implements and evaluates recreation programs including but not limited to youth sports classes, youth sports leagues, youth enrichment classes, adult recreation leagues, teen center, special events, outdoor ice rinks, summer playground program, summer childcare camp, and adult programs. • Assists with overseeing adult leagues, including marketing, scheduling games, coordinating games, and hiring officials, etc. • Creates, builds, and maintains relationships with partner organization in order to facilitate programs. • Recruits, trains, and maintains relationships with volunteer youth league coaches, including providing training and setting expectations. • Prepares rosters, contact information, facility, and equipment for instructors, staff, and partner organizations. • Recommends and develops recreation programs based on City staff and community desires and needs. • Assists in reviewing and recommending fee structure for recreation programs based on instructor, material, facility, and cost recovery policies. • Continually evaluates all programs and activities to assure they are achieving goals and objectives. • Assists Human Resources with recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding and training staff, including ice rink attendants, seasonal referees, seasonal summer program staff, and youth development staff. Page 2 Recreation Coordinator/Supervisor • Train, direct, schedule, supervise, and evaluate staff: including ice rink attendants, seasonal referees, seasonal summer program staff, and youth development staff. • Train employees on necessary procedures, policies, and systems. • Utilize a recreation management software to schedule programs, reserve facilities, communicate with participants, and access necessary data and information. • Assists the Parks and Recreation Superintendent in preparing the operating budget for programs and reviews the financial status of programs. • Create program descriptions and marketing materials for the seasonal program guides and youth programs newsletter. Other Work Functions (Illustrative Only): Performs related work as required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: • Valid Minnesota driver's license. • Thorough knowledge of recreation administration principles and practices. • Thorough knowledge of the equipment and techniques necessary to successfully conduct recreation programs. • Thorough knowledge of the methods involved in organizing, conducting, promoting and leading recreation activities. • Basic knowledge of first aid methods and necessary safety precautions to be used in recreation work. • Ability to plan, organize and implement a variety of recreation programs. • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to establish effective working relationships. • Demonstrate initiative and excellent problem -solving skills. • Demonstrate an ability to effectively handle a wide variety of projects and problems in an effective and professional manner. • Ability to handle stressful situations and effectively deal with difficult or angry people. • Ability to speak a second language (or multilingual) may benefit the position. • Grant writing knowledge is helpful to the position. • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends when needed. • Demonstrate an ability to effectively handle a wide variety of projects and problems in an effective and professional manner. • Skill in the operation of office tools, recreation software, digital filing, and equipment. • Ability to handle stressful situations and effectively deal with difficult or angry people. • Ability to obtain CPR/First Aid Certification within six (6) months of hire. • Knowledge of a second language or multilingual, may be helpful. • Ability to setup and clean rooms when custodial staff not available.
