PARKS AND RECREATION AND FORESTRY COMMISSION

MEETING MINUTES
1. CALL TO ORDER at 6:30 PM
2. ROLL CALL: Commissioners: Arel, Bankston, Bosneag II, Lundberg*, Palm, Mills, Wake Wiesner

3. APPROVAL OF AGENDA: Motion to approve by Palm, 2nd by Bankston. Motion Passed 4-0.
4. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES from June 26th, 2025, meeting: Motion to approve by Bosneag II,
2nd by Bankston. Motion Passed 4-0
5. PUBLIC INPUT
Citizens may speak about issues not on tonight’s agenda. Before speaking, please give your full
name and address. Please limit your comments to three minutes. No residents present.
6. STAFF REPORTS
A. Parks and Recreation – Peterson: See attached report.
B. Public Works – Peterson: See attached report.
7. UNFINISHED BUSINESS
A. Zipline update, Pulling Zipline August 19th – Peterson
B. Blue Cross Blue Shield Fitness Court update, must be installed by no later than mid-
September 2025- Peterson (Wake Wiesner HERE 6:46 PM). Due to the deadlines, we
were unable to choose a local MV artist. Hopefully we can choose someone local in the
future with more notice. BCBS has to approve the artists.
C. Tribute Park - Starting construction ~first week of August 2025- Peterson: Dedication is
September 13th at 1:00 PM in conjunction with the Fall Community Resource Fair.
8. NEW BUSINESS
A. Bilingual Story Trail at the Penny Carnival August 15th - Peterson.
B. GOAL Parks - subcommittee – talking applications now- Committee will focus on how to fund
the Park Master Plan- Peterson: Applications will be in the MV Matters. Can we put QR Codes
in the parks to advertise applicants? Motion by Palm, 2nd by Bosneag II to nominate Laura
Wake Wiesner as the PRF Commission representative to the GOAL Parks
Subcommittee. Motion Passed 5-0.
C. Festival in the Park – 2025 Update
1. Dinosaur Naming for Hodges Park - Bosneag II is willing to construct a social media post
that would include a QR code for the community to submit names and then he will choose
the top three names to provide shoebox voting at the Festival. Arel will cut up paper for
voting. Votes will hopefully be counted between 6:00-7:30 PM so the winning names can be
announced at the end of the raffle winners. We will have 3 copies of the Park Master Plan
and encourage applications for the GOAL subcommittee. There will also be information
about the Tribute Park.
9. COMMISSIONER REPORTS: MV Movies in the Park every Friday night in August starting at dusk.
MVEA is hosting a movie night at IHS at 6:00 on Wednesday, August 13. Ralph Reeder Food Shelf
needs paper grocery bags.
10. REQUESTS FOR FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS / OTHER BUSINESS: NONE
