PUBLIC HEARING - NONE. <br />15 <br />16 V. REPORTS FROM COMMISSION AND STAFF. <br />17 <br />18 A. Presentation of the 2014 Planning Commission Work Plan. <br />19 <br />20 Planning Commission Chair Heinis advised that the Planning Commission elected Erica Crone <br />21 as its Chair for the coming year and he will serve as Vice Chair. He presented the 2014 Planning <br />22 Commission Work Plan and stated it includes a review/update of the City's nonconforming lot <br />23 standards, a review/update/creation of a home occupation/interim use permit/special use permit <br />24 ordinance, continued review/update of the City's green/energy/reuse ordinance, specifically solar <br />25 energy in residential and commercial areas, pervious pavement systems, keeping of chickens, <br />26 and keeping of honey bees, as well as a review of outdoor wood burning fire standards. <br />27 <br />28 Councilmember Stille thanked Mr. Heinis for his service as Chair and expressed the City <br />29 Council's thanks and appreciation to the Planning Commission for their efforts. <br />30 <br />31 Motion by Councilmember Stille, seconded by Councilmember Jenson, to approve the 2014 <br />32 Planning Commission Work Plan. <br />33 <br />34 Motion carried unanimously. <br />35 <br />36 VI. GENERAL BUSINESS OF COUNCIL. <br />37 <br />38 A. Safe Routes to School. Lisa Austin, MnDOT, presenting <br />39 <br />40 Mayor Faust introduced Lisa Austin from MnDOT. <br />41 <br />42 Ms. Austin explained that the Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program began with funding from <br />43 the Federal transportation budget and the Governor and Legislature funded a statewide SRTS <br />44 program that provides funds for non -infrastructure items; in addition, the Governor's 2014 <br />45 bonding bill recommended $2 million for SRTS infrastructure. She discussed the benefits of the <br />46 SRTS program including increased physical activity and increased academic performance, <br />47 noting that kids who get physical activity before school have better grades and increased <br />
