Programs Recommendations <br />The Safe Routes to School movement has been a leader in <br />acknowledging that infrastructure changes are a necessary but <br />insufficient condition for shifting school travel behavior. While <br />engineering improvements like sidewalks, crosswalks, and <br />bikeways are important, equally important are education <br />programs to make sure children and families have basic safety <br />skills, encouragement programs to highlight walking and <br />bicycling to school as fun and normal, enforcement against <br />unsafe and illegal motorist behavior, and evaluation of the <br />impact of investments and non -infrastructure efforts. <br />Recommended Programs for Wilshire <br />Park Elementary School <br />• International Walk and Bike to School Day <br />• Walk and Bike to School Route Maps <br />• Park and Walk Program <br />• Walking School Bus or Bike Train <br />• Classroom Lessons <br />• law Enforcement: Digital Speed Signs <br />• School/Community Communications <br />The following programs were identified as priorities for Wilshire Park Elementary School during the SRTS <br />planning process. These programs were selected to meet the interest and needs of the school community in <br />the near term (1 to 5 years).
