School Area Specific Signing and <br />Marking <br />School Sign (S7-1) <br />The School Sign (Sl -1) is used to warn drivers that <br />they are approaching a school area, or to identify <br />the beginning of a designated school zone. <br />AHEAD <br />School Crossing Assemblies <br />The School Sign may be combined with small <br />plaques to indicate specific crossing locations. A <br />school sign combined with an AHEAD plaque <br />(W16 -9p) creates a School Advance Crossing Assembly, <br />used to warn road users that they are approaching <br />a crossing where schoolchildren cross the roadway. <br />At specific crosswalks or crossing locations, a <br />School Crossing Assembly indicates the location of the <br />crossing point where schoolchildren are expected <br />to cross. It includes a School sign (SI -I) and a <br />diagonal downward arrow (W16 -7p) must be <br />included. <br />SCHOOL <br />SPEED <br />LIMIT <br />20 <br />WHEN <br />CHILDREN <br />ARE PRESENT <br />School Zone Speed Limit Assembly <br />A School Zone Speed Limit Assembly identifies a <br />speed limit for used in a specific geographic area. <br />Speed limits may apply over limited time frames or <br />conditions as indicated on the sign. <br />School Crossing Pavement Markings <br />As a supplement to a marked crosswalk, the <br />SCHOOL word marking may provide additional <br />warning to drivers about the potential presence of <br />school children. <br />
