l recalled canoeing down that street a couple of times when
he was younger;
3 indicated surprise that Mr. Bredemus' sons hadn't known
4 about those conditions before they bought the house or at
5 least wouldn't have been told something about them by the
6 seller.
7 Ranallo pointed to the fact that the 1988 valuation had been $1,000
8 less than the purchase price, even though all other St.
9 Anthony properties had risen at least 2-3% since 1985;
10 warned that the Board of Equalization might raise the valu-
11 ation above $89,000.
12 Mr. Bredemus said he didn't want to carry the issue further but was
13 just interested in finding out more about how the property valuations
14 were established.
15 Council Action
16 Motion by Ranallo, seconded by Marks to uphold the $89,000 assessed
17 valuation the Hennepin County Assessors had placed on the property at
18 2705 St. Anthony Boulevard after an onsite inspection had been made of
19 the premises.
no Motion carried unanimously.
21 Schmid Home at 2800 St. Anthony Boulevard to be Reevaluated
22 Mrs. Alois R. Schmid of the above address appeared to protest the 9.6%
23 raise in valuation her property had been given in 1988 which raised her
24 valuation from $92,000 to $97,600. Mrs. Schmid reported she had
25 requested an onsite inspection of her property two years ago and the
26 assessor at that time had reduced the valuation to $92,000 which had
27 stayed the same for 1987. The homeowner indicated there had been no
28 improvements to her home for the last 20 years. When she had called
29 the Assessors Office she had been told "the big house across the
30 street" and several other things had caused the raise which, Mrs.
31 Schmid said, had not satisfied her.
32 Councilmember Ranallo told the assessors this was the same type of
33 complaint he was getting from other residents whose property values
34 were being raised without onsite inspections.
35 Mr. Salzwedel told him the real estate market went up 6% last year, so
36 the assessors have to adjust their schedules to reflect those changes.
37 He indicated that by not reflecting that raise all over the City, and
38 not just in the quadrant inspected last year, would tend to upset the
39 equalization the assessors try to maintain for the City as a whole.
40 Mr. Busitsky added that onsite inspections just updated and verified
41 data already entered into the computer which is then applied to like
3
