Physical housing conditions in St. Anthony are generally good, with minor amounts of <br />deferred maintenance and very little severe deterioration. The housing stock is an <br />average of 50 years old and, thus, has not reached the point where major renovation is <br />needed Household incomes in the community has been generally moderate to high, <br />which has enabled owners to maintain their properties adequately. The private market <br />has been generally very effective at remedying problems related to physical conditions. <br />Also, there have been few instances of incompatible land use relationships that might <br />lead to disinvestment <br />St. Anthony has taken the following actions to promote the development of new <br />affordable housing units: <br />• Approved variances for lot width and lot area <br />We have made dramatic changes and improvements to our home, but have not modified <br />its footprint. If we were to do so, we would need to apply for a variance for the same <br />reasons we must apply for one in order to install a pool. Families in the community make <br />improvements to their properties for various reasons: to accommodate a growing family, <br />to add to the quality of life in and outside their homes, to create spaces that serve the <br />needs of their growing children and foster family and community. Our desire to add a <br />pool aligns with the city's vision to—enlarge and remodel properties... as well as our <br />values as a family and as members of this community in that as our children grow, their <br />desire for activity increases, and their boundaries stretch.
