City Council Regular Meeting Minutes <br />March 24, 2015 <br />Page 4 <br />I Motion carried unanimously. <br />2 <br />3 D. St. Anthony Police Department Annual Report. John Ohl, Police Chief, presenting. <br />4 <br />5 Police Chief Ohl presented the 2014 Police Department annual report and discussed "Safety <br />6 through Service" and the importance of service as the core principle of the Police Department. <br />7 He advised there were 267 Part I crimes in 2014, a decrease of 140 from 2013, and 198 Part II <br />8 crimes in 2014, a decrease of 18 from 2013. He reminded citizens they should not hesitate to <br />9 call the police if they see something suspicious and the Police Department appreciates the <br />10 contact with citizens. He advised the Police Department wrote over 2,000 moving violations, <br />11 over 300 non - moving violations, and made 880 arrests during 2014; when combining the cities <br />12 of Falcon Heights and Lauderdale, the Police Department had over 1,900 arrests, issued 5,675 <br />13 citations, received over 11,000 calls for service, and there were 369 Part I offenses and 361 Part <br />14 II offenses. He stated the Police Department handled 465 criminal cases and cleared a total of <br />15 253 cases for a clearance rate of 54 %. He stated that Lieutenant Scholl handles the education <br />16 requirements that included training in firearms, diversity awareness, juvenile sex trafficking and <br />17 exploitation, as well as leadership training. He stated that Sergeant Spiess is in charge of the <br />18 police reserve program and the City is fortunate to have a high quality police reserve program <br />19 and the reserves volunteered 2,356 hours in 2014. He discussed the crime prevention program <br />20 run by Sergeant Mangseth that includes the Summer Survival School, a popular program run by <br />21 Officer South. He stated the Police Department annual report is available on the website and <br />22 includes letters from citizens that are proof that the Police Department is making a difference in <br />23 the communities of St. Anthony, Falcon Heights, and Lauderdale. <br />24 <br />25 Councilmember Jenson commended Police Chief Ohl and his staff for all their accomplishments <br />26 and the significant amount of outreach programs. He thanked Police Chief Ohl and his entire <br />27 staff for their dedicated service to the community. <br />28 <br />29 Councilmember Stille thanked Police Chief Ohl for another great year and encouraged citizens to <br />30 read the Police Department annual report, particularly the message from the Chief and the letters <br />31 at the back of the report. <br />32 <br />33 Councilmember Brever thanked Police Chief Ohl and the Police Department for their dedicated <br />34 service and for their outreach to kids, students, and everyone in the community. <br />35 <br />36 Councilmember Gray stated he has frequently heard complimentary comments from residents of <br />37 Falcon Heights and Lauderdale about the Police Chief and the entire Police Department. He <br />38 thanked Police Chief Ohl and the Police Department for their commitment and service. <br />39 <br />40 Mayor Faust expressed heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Police Chief Ohl and the entire <br />41 Police Department on behalf of the City Council and as a resident for their first class quality <br />42 service to everyone in the community. <br />43 <br />44 VII. REPORTS FROM CITY MANAGER AND COUNCIL MEMBERS. <br />45 <br />46 City Manager Casey reported on his attendance at a meeting regarding the Highway Safety <br />47 Improvement program.
