Other Police Activities for 1999 The department was very proactive in 1999 with our involvement with Community Prevention Coalition, DARE, Crime Prevention efforts, and training of three new officers as well as two new Community Service Officers. 1. Conducted tobacco compliance checks during the year. 2. Held three town meetings in May relating to crime prevention/Y2K/city functions. 3. Obtained a federal/state grant for Liaison officers at the high school on a part-time basis for the year 2000. These were three of several police activities for the year. Police Reserves—Total volunteer hours for 1999— 2288 hours We averaged 9 reserve officers for the year covering a wide range of events and patrol functions. National Nite Out our Crime Prevention Officer's attended 14 block parties. We continue to advertise in our quarterly newsletter, pamphlets in the police office, and on cable TV for citizens to join our Neighborhood Watch Program. New Programs for Year 2000 Bike Patrol —will consist of four officers trained to perform bike patrol functions in the city. We anticipate the start up for late.May 2000. Sergeant Diegnau will be in charge of this newly founded division of the department. Officers were picked for their overall physical fitness and desire to take on this additional duty. We plan to operate the bike patrol through the summer and into early fall. General hours will be from 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m. Alcohol Compliance Checks We will begin compliance checks of all businesses and establishments selling on& off sale alcohol beverages •
