60
Planning Commission Meeting Minutes
April 18, 2000
Page 5
•
he stated, that the City is considering the revised land designation has to do with the range of
uses that Hillcrest Development is contemplating for the redevelopment of Apache Plaza.
Mr. Carlson (DSU) wished to clarify that under the current zoning requirements, there is less
control by the City over which businesses choose to utilize the zoning uses. Under a PUD, he
stated, the rules change and the City would be able to utilize more control over the property.
Jim Waters, Quest Real Estate, wished to state that he represented the owners of the Apache
Medical Building, and expressed the support of the owners of the building toward the redevelop-
ment of Apache Plaza. In addition, he stated, his clients would like to work with City Staff about
the impact of the redevelopment as the process goes forward.
After calling for additional input from the audience and hearing none, Chair Bergstrom closed
the public hearing at 7:55 p.m.
Chair Bergstrom asked for Commissioner comments.
Hanson offered that he would view the PUD as providing the City additional control over the
property. Additionally, he believed the PUD would provide leverage for the City to work toward
the improvement of water quality and to deal with those issues, as opposed to simply rezoning
• the property.
Motion by Stille, second by Thomas, to approve the amendment to the Comprehensive Plan as
proposed in the document prepared by Dahlgren, Shardlow, Uban (entitled "Proposed Compre-
hensive Plan Text Change").
Motion carried unanimously.
Chair Bergstrom directed City Staff to work with the consultant(DSU)to submit this proposed
amendment to the City Council at the meeting scheduled for Tuesday, April 25, 2000, for review
and/or approval.
2. PUBLIC HEARING. A request for approval of a conditional use permit to allow con-
struction of a wireless antenna on the Apache Medical Building, 4001 Stinson Boulevard.
Chair Bergstrom opened the public hearing at 7:57 p.m. and requested a report from Staff.
Assistant City Manager Isom stated that Nextel Communications is requesting a conditional use
permit to allow construction of a wireless antenna site for their telecommunications network.
Jim Nelson of Buell Consulting, Inc. is in attendance at the meeting as a representative of Nextel
Communications.
•
