DATE: January 24, 1983
TO: Dave Childs, City Manager
FROM: Don Hickerson, Chief of ,Police
SUBJECT : Animal Control Services
After exploring a number of Animal Control options, including
our Maintenance Department picking up stray dogs , it would be
to our benefit financially to stay with MAPSI . I solicited a
copy of New Brighton' s contract with Brighton Veterinary Clinic,
2615 Mississippi Street, New Brighton, and their animal control
fees at the Clinic are higher than ours at MAPSI, and they do
the picking up and patrolling. The New Brighton contract calls
for the following fees due the Clinic:
$9. 00 for disposal of dead animals
City pay 500 of the cost of distemper vaccine.
City pays $4 . 00 per day for each dog boarded and $3. 00
per day for each cat. (Owner pays if located or if
animal is claimed. )
City pays $12 . 00 for each animal destroyed up to 40
pounds and $15. 00 for each animal over 40 pounds .
City pay $75. 00 per month administrative fee .
I contacted Frank P ucci of MAPSI concerning our contract and he
agreed to lower the monthly administrative fee from $50. 00 to
$25 . 00 and the patrol fee from $19 . 00 per hour to $17. 50 per
hour. He stated that the fees will have to be raised in 1984 ,
however.
I recommend that the contract with MAPSI for the year 1983 be
approved.
DH: c z
i
