ANTHONY
REQUEST FOR CITY COUNCIL ACTION
------------------------------------------------------ ----------------- -
Date Submitted - - :Type of Action Requested -Agenda: Item Number
Resolution Reports-la
August 24, 1984 Ordinance
Date Action Requested X Formal Action/Motion Title St.I Anthony Town-.
Other
August 28, 1984 homes Sign Request
------------------------------------------------------------------------
TO: Mayor and Councilmen
FROM: David M. Childs, City Manager
------------------------------------------------------------------------
SUMMARY DISCUSSION OF SUBJECT: Attached is a proposal to take the existing
wooden signs for the St. Anthony Townhomes and mount them on a berm in a singular
V-shaped structure with substantive brick work supporting them. A similar concept
to the sign was approved for Elmwood Church a few years ago. The Planning Commission
has recommended approval with conditions as shown in their minutes.
Because both the townhomes and the Craig .Morris beauty shop are part of the original.
Hedlund PUD, the Commission has recommended that only the townhouse sign be allowed
to remain . A motion made on June 19th recommended that the Craig Morris free stand-
ing sign be removed. The beauty shop is for sale and both Mr. Hedlund and Mr.
iMorris feel that the prospective owners should have the ability to have some sort of
sign (somewhat smaller than the Morris sign) to identify the business. Prospective
buyers will be at the meeting and I would recommend that the Council vote to allow
a freestanding sign not larger than 50 square feet (25 square feet per side) and
not higher than 60 inches above the base be allowed for the Morris property. The
Planning Commission did not vote on such an issue but generally seemed to regard a
smaller sign as an acceptable situation for the property.
• CITY MANAGER'S REVIEW: COMMENTS :
m -
