al hon
N Ella e
D A T E A P P R OVA L
January 16, 1987 IV
T O
Planning Commission Members
FROM : David M. Childs, City Manager
I T EM : LESLIE PAPER, 2850 ANTHONY LANE SOUTH SIGN VARIANCE REQUEST
BACKGROUND: This is a request from Leslie Paper, 2850 Anthony Lane South, for a variance tc
allow a ground sign of 60 square feet (30 square feet X 2 sides) . The sign
code based on bonuses given for lesser height, would allow a total sign surface
area of 40 square feet. The ordinance would allow such,-a sign in lieu of
allowed wall signs. The subject building currently has some wal-1 signage in
place and the applicant requests that the City allow such signage to remain
but states that their first priority would be for the ground sign, if all
or part of the existing wall signage is required to be removed.
No calls have been received either for or against this request.
It appears that the applicant desires better visibility since the mature
landscaping around the building makes the existing wall signage less visible
than it may originally have been. Also, that wall signage, to a large
extent, is in the form of two large "L" logos to represent the company.
cjk:pcl .20.87
