DATE: December 28, 1987 <br /> TO: City Council Members <br /> FROM: Don Hickerson, Chief of Police <br /> SUBJECT: Proposed New Ordinances <br /> The following two proposed ordinances were sent to the City Attorney for reviewal <br /> and-modification as necessary. <br /> 1. Weapons Ordinance - This ordinance would' cover possession of assault <br /> type weapons such as nunchaku, chaka, karate sticks etc. which are not <br /> presently covered by an ordinance and which we are encountering on the <br /> streets and in the schools. This proposed ordinance would allow for <br /> prosecution in. these instances. <br /> 2. Controlled Substance or (Drug) Ordinance - This ordinance is necessary <br /> so we can charge as a misdemeanor those cases turned down as felonies by <br /> the County Attorneys. (Under 2 ounces of Marijuana and under 3 grams of <br /> cocaine etc.) At the present time we are unable to charge anyone who <br /> possesses under these amounts because of the County Attorney guidelines. <br /> • The proposed Ordinance would allow for prosecution.in these instances. <br /> I. recommend that both of these ordinances be adopted by the City Council.. <br /> • <br />
