2 •
1 Mr. DiSanto showed a proposed signage plan intended to give the center
2 a contemporary look. The plan is modeled after the only other U.S.
3 property the absentee owners have which is in Dallas. The proposed sign
4 and fascia project would cost $250,000 or more, so again, until cash
5 flow improves, the improvements will be delayed.
6 He would like to continue to work with the City regarding the future of
7 the center.
8 In discussing the idea for the mural (which the Council had previously
9 discouraged) , Mr. DiSanto said his original plan had been to indicate
10 a "Village Shop" theme, one that depicted small town "quality service"
11 establishments. Marks stated that he had liked the original plan and
12 Enrooth stated that had Mr. DiSanto rather than the representative from
13 Eberhardt been the one to present the plan, he might very well have
14 given it more favorable consideration.
15 Mr. DiSanto stated that he was not unhappy, discouraged or angry that
16 the mural idea had not taken hold. The Council stated that they had
17 not liked the way the plan was presented.
18 Marks initiated a discussion about the long-range plan or Mr. DiSanto's
19 "Vision" for the shopping center.
20 Mr. DiSanto said there is a ,lot of work to do but that the merchants
21 will have to do their part. Mr. DiSanto's vision, with which the
22 Council wholeheartedly agreed, was as follows:
23 That the St. Anthony Shopping Center be the place that people
24 think of when they want the very best shoe repair, or the very best
25 bakery, or the very best barber, or the very best apothecary. The
26 center is unlikely to attract national tenants, so the local, "quality
27 service" concept seems to be best for the center.
28 The group then discussed the concept of .a Sears "Super Catalog"store
29 for the center, which includes hard goods like hardware, appliances,
30 electronics and catalog service. The Mayor agreed to author a letter
31 to the property people at Sears if the Shopping Center representative
32 would prepare an adequate information package.
33 In conclusion, all parties expressed enthusiasm at the more open
34 communication and the improve relationship between the parties, as well
35 as hopes for the future success of the center.
36 Temporary 3.2 Licenses Approved
37 Motion by Enrooth, seconded by Sundland to approve temporary 3.2 beer
38 licenses for picnics for: Peter Day Picnic; Fagerlee Picnic.
39 Voting on the motion: •
