ain IM ilia e
DATE : APPRCY, AL,V
JJ 1
August S , 199R
TO
Mayor and rnunni 1mP_mhPr.-_
FROM : Larry Hamer, Public-- Work.-, njrPc-_tnr
STOP SIGN PETITION - MURRAY AVENUE AND COOLIDGE STREET
The attached petition is a request for a three-way stop at the intersection
of Murray Avenue and Coolidge Street.
A traffic count was taken for 29th Avenue to St. Anthony Boulevard and from
St. Anthony Boulevard to Kenzie Terrace on Coolidge Street. The traffic
from 29th to St. Anthony Boulevard is almost triple the traffic flow from
St. Anthony Boulevard to Kenzie Terrace.
It is my opinion that this road is being used as a by-pass road to St.
Anthony Boulevard rather than going to Silver Lake Road and then to St.
Anthony Boulevard. It appears that drivers use the by-pass route because
of the heavy build up of traffic turning left on Silver Lake Road at St.
Anthony Boulevard.
The Police have taken radar checks for the same routes and found some
excessive speeding on Coolidge. One person was tagged.
I recommend the three-way stop be approved for the following reasons:
1) high usage;
2) speeding; and
3 ) number of residents in favor of the signs.
:cjk
