ain thon
r
tiffiae
SATE : AP PROVA= (
October 14 , 1988
Planning Commission Members
FROM :
David M. Childs, City Manager
I TEM : REQUEST FROM SALVATION ARMY CAMP
The Salvation Army has formulated a master plan for the future of the
Silver Lake Camp. A copy of this plan is attached for your review.
Their immediate proposal is
*to repave some of the roads in the camp;
*to reopen the west entrance to the camp located on County Road east
(west of the current main entrance) ;
*construct an administration building on the northwest side of the
camp;
*construct a vehicle storage building on the east central part of the
camp.
Note: attached drawings and plans depict all of the above.
All of these items are permitted uses and no variances are required,
however, the zoning ordinance requires in Section 11 (Recreation
Open Space) R.O.S. Zone, Subdivision 6:
"All structures shall be constructed of a material and of a
design which is compatible with the natural environment as
determined by the Planning Board and Council and which con-
forms with applicable codes. "
Your review should address that provision of the ordinance. No
public hearing is necessary on this issue.
Background: The mausoleum at Sunset Cemetery and the new clubhouse
at Gross Golf Course are the two most recent examples of review by
the Planning Commission and City Council concerning compatibility
with natural environment in the R.O.S. zone.
The alvation Army would also like to take a few minutes to review
their long-range plans with the Commission so that the City is
informed of their future intentions.
:cjk10. 18 .88
