1988 Government Service Training Sessions Underway <br /> 2 Councilmember Marks reported the first planning conference had been held <br /> 3 last week in Brooklyn Center, another was scheduled for December 1st <br /> 4 in North Mankato. Conferences in Alexandria and at the Earle Brown <br /> 5 Center at the University would follow later in December. <br /> 6 Councilmember Learns Firsthand That It Takes Skill to Drive a Snowplow <br /> 7 The Councilmember concluded his report by saying he had realized the <br /> 8 above when he had participated in the Public Works Department's Ride- <br /> 9 Along Program. He said Dick Kristyniak had extended an offer for him <br /> 10 to ride along when he was plowing after the last snowfall and found out <br /> 11 that his first impressions that the plows were "big, lumbering, giant- <br /> 12 like machines which would be incredibly difficult to manage on heavily <br /> 13 trafficked streets" , had been very accurate. He said he's now looking <br /> 14 forward to riding along when there's a really big snowfall to plow. <br /> 15 CITY MANAGER REPORTS <br /> 16 The Council indicated they perceived no more need this year than last <br /> 17 year for the services of the Dispute Resolution Center, whose brochure <br /> 18 was in their agenda packet. <br /> 19 Manager Gives Update on Negotiations With U. S. Army Regarding Water <br /> 20 Contamination By Twin City Army Ammunition Plant <br /> 41 Mr. Childs indicated he perceived progress was being made and he hoped <br /> 22 to be able to make an announcement on the completion of those meetings <br /> 23 sometime within the next few weeks. He said he was happy to report <br /> 24 that the process on the permanent carbon filtration plant was moving <br /> 25 close to schedule- and hadn't been delayed too much recently in spite of <br /> 26 all the difficulties along the way. <br /> 27 AGENDA ADDENDUM <br /> 28 Mr. Childs indicated that because he had been on vacation, some of the <br /> 29 items which should have been listed had not been included on the agenda. <br /> 30 Among these was the announcement that the lettering would be put on <br /> 31 the entrance sign late the next afternoon which he thought the <br /> 32 Councilmembers might want to know about in advance. ` <br /> 33 Final Payment to be Made to the School District for Parkview <br /> 34 Mr. Soth advised that he had received the deed for the building, <br /> 35 effective November 1 , 1988, which meant the City could make the -final <br /> 36 payment of $18,000.00 for the parking lot. <br /> 37 Council Action <br /> ® 23 <br />
