Motion carried unanimously . <br /> REPORTS <br /> MAY 16 , 1989 PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES <br /> Stonehouse, 2700 Highway 88 , Sign Request <br /> Planning Commission Recommendation <br /> Commissioner Hansen reported that the Planning Commission minutes dated <br /> May 16 , 1939 properly reflect the discussion and recommendations of the <br /> Commission on that date and their agreement with the findings of the <br /> City Council , as detailed on page 3 , lines 24 through 34 of those <br /> minutes concerning the Stonehouse signage package . <br /> Acting City Manager VanderHeyden indicated that the action remaining to <br /> be taken by the City Council was final approval . She presented a <br /> picture of the bar/lounge sign under discussion , given to her by Ray <br /> Nelson, and relayed to the Council Ray Nelson ' s request that the sign <br /> be permitted because it marks one of the entrances to the <br /> establishment . <br /> • Commissioner Hansen commented on the proximity of the Stonehouse to the <br /> gateway to the City, and remarked that although the Stonehouse is a <br /> source of tax revenue to the city, customers can and should be <br /> attracted to establishments without the clutter of excess signage . <br /> Mayor Pro Tem Ranallo pointed out that the new signage will bring the <br /> total square footage up to 144 square feet of the maximum 150 <br /> square feet permissible per businesss . <br /> Council Member Makowske agrees with the Planning Commission that <br /> additional signage is not needed, and that other signage stands out <br /> more with less total signage . <br /> Council Action <br /> Notion by Marks , seconded by I•Iakowske , to accept the recomri!endations of <br /> the Planning Commission as detailed on page 3 , lines 24 to 34 of the <br /> May 16 , 1989 Planning Co?,mission minutes , to recommend that the half <br /> barrel canopy sign be moved to the west side of the Stonehouse ; that <br />� -- the letters for ;BAR and LOUNGE be removed from the front wall ; and that <br /> only the lettering on the sides of the barrel canopy sign which show <br /> from the street be retained. <br /> Motion carried unanimously . <br /> • Mid-America Dairymen, Inc .
